Speck Decoys

Well we are slowly figuring out how to kill a few of these birds. We manged to somehow lose or someone stole our Speck decoys. I wasn't that impressed with them anyway. I was wondering if anyone might have a suggestion on a decent floater Speck decoy. We had Higdon, didn't like how the heads attach. I like G & H, but theirs are butt ugly. So anyone out there have any suggestions??? We are way to rough on them for Greenhead Gear, there would be no paint left on them after a few weeks. Sorry if this question is too "Refuge" like for some of ya'll, you will have to forgive me, after all I am an "Albanian".

We've had G&H honker floaters for several years and have been very satisfied with their durability. I haven't seen the speck paint scheme up close, so can't say anything about appearance for realism.

We've also had Higdon stackable shell honker desoys since '03 - very durable! I know they make speck shells too, and the paint scheme is pretty realistic, IMO.

Perhaps you could look into the Higdon speck floaters. There are a few other brands out there (besides GHG), but I haven't had any experience with them.

For the value, G&H is hard to beat, but I understand the distaste for a particular paint scheme.

Some of us DIYers just get some walmart spraypaints and take some econo snow shells and some Canada floaters and paint'em...You prolly have to clear coat with a semigloss to make the paint more durable. I understand you want to get what you pay for and ain't into crafting but ifin you just need a few to compliment your deal...really kinda easy...The corn came aready yellar and the orange motion stakes made per RD....
Kinda like tieflyin...make what you want, how you want, to get the result you want...Ain't rocket science...They got walmarts in LA (Lower Albania) don't they?...Later DL
Oops! my bad NA (Northern Albania)

Motion stakes...3/4 tapered faucet washers and 5/32 cold rolled rods...new hole ahead of the square plastic stake one.

Mine ain't quite as fancy as yours are Denduke, but then again coming from a fellow who ties world class flies, I can't compete.

Worked like a charm though, killed geese over them. Painted them the day before I used them. I will say one thing- they look a HELLUVA lot better than the cheap Canadas they were supposed to imitate...

Just learn to call them and you don't need any decoys. I use full body decoys exclusively now unless hunting them in a spread.

 Possibly...

No I didn't have the time to get paint as Wally world was closed the night I did them. I had white, black, some walnut color and a darker brown. I used the black and darker brown on the backs. It looks that way because they are under 3 gallery lights, I reckon.

I assure you mine are so good I'd be the recipient of the MacArthur Award if I were to go public.

On a serious note, they do work. You don't have to have too much. I am not a serious speck hunter but over the years we have started targeting them more as they are more abundant. I look for specks to consistently become harder to hunt- hell i guess they already are. I remember when you could call em in by topping out a duck call... I may invest in some real ones this season. These have blood on their feathers though; they will stay in action until I see fit to discharge them to my friends "igloo graveyard".

I would imagine serious speck hunters would tell me I'm wrong something fierce on the, "not having to have much to kill em" comment- far as decoys go.
