I know its legal to shoot these things but is there a place you can sell them for there pelt and if so do you have to have some sort of license to sell them (besides the normal hunting license)?

Trappers license in Louisiana will give you $5/tail. As hard as it is to believe, they are also good to eat, IMO as good as a rabbit.

does anyone know if that is the same for MS? You cant transport them over state lines either can you?

I've had sausage made out of them and spaghetti made with them and it was pretty good. Of course, the only thing I've ever had that a cajun cooked that I didn't like was coot gumbo.

Your crazy killa, Pouldoux gumbo is a fine meal. Must have been some knock off cajun cooking for you. The best thing to use from them is their gizzards, but you gotta clean them real well. And yeah jeff, nutria was a staple at my old camp on lake maurepas, cooked down in a gravy and served over willow mushrooms....... Man its only 9 am and im hungry

Naw, I swear! It was made by a card carrying coona$$ from below Hopedale. He cooked the breast meat, not the gizzards though. It was just too strong for my liking.

arkduckslayer, next time I have your dad down to the camp, you'll have to tag along and I'll make poul'e d'eau gumbo, I just about garunutee you will like it. Gizzards are by far the best. Kinda like legs on a marsh hen/rail.

Thanks for the invite Jeff. I'd love to make a trip down there. Of course, you are always welcome to travel north to the LLDC.

I like the fact that i don't feel bad about not using the entire thing (unlike with rabbits). Makes it pretty nice to just take the back legs and back off a nutria. Much bigger than a rabbit, and more tender.

where in La can you sell them?

There are several places that take them in, we have a trapper supply place near our lease we take them to and it pays the cost of our lease every year.

Jeff, How would one go about finding these places? Since I'm in MS and would be selling in LA would I need some sort of LA out of state license to sell. According to MS Game and Fish I only need an all game, sportsman or trapping license to bag and sell nutira and be legal on the MS end of the deal.

The nutria bounty program has boundries though. You have to hunt them south of the I-10 / I-12 corridor. When you fill out the application, there is a section on where trapping/hunting will be taking place. I don't see a person being able to trap/hunt them in MS and sell them in LA.
