Getting the itch for a new pup

Postby cwink » Wed Jul 13, 2011 3:40 pm

My problem is the wife doesn't want another Lab (she thinks they chew up to much stuff) but I still want one that will fetch ducks. But I don't what other breeds to consider.. I know I don't want a long haired dog though... Any other suggestions????

Yea well my lab just chewed on the new wood table I got my wife :x
I dont know who im more mad at, the wife for leaving her in the kitchen with nothing to play with, or the dog for eating a leg off of it! I had this table hand made and thats what bothers me the most.
Oh well like I told my wife, puppy is 9 weeks old. What you think shes not going to chew on anything..
May the wind always be at your back and the sun upon your face, and may the wings of destiny carry you aloft to dance with the stars.
Cheers, Georgie.

I had the same itch and just picked up my new puppy yesterday, my wife raised all kind of hell about it last week, but when I got home he was piled up on the couch with her and my son...just do it and she will get over it....maybe 8)

All Puppys are bad. Just get your lab and make sure when not supervised the pup is in a kennel. Best way to house break them too. Keep them busy and they will not have time to destroy.

Do not listen to my advice, I was sleeping good last night but the puppy kept my wife up all night by howling in his kennel run in the back yard, in turn my wife kept me up all night complaining about it  If mama aint happy no body is happy, yeah those words definitely proved to be true last night.

All puppies are going to give you trouble. Get a lab and commit to him, they are only chompijg monsters for so long. My parents complained about me getting one bc they thought I wasn't ready, being in college. They are/were wrong. I've got a 8 and half week old blk lab male and wouldn't trade him for anything. He knaws on anything he can get his mouth on, but if he's out of his crate I have an eye on him at all times and tell him leave it/no when he chews something he isnt supposed to and quickly replace it with a chew toy or nylabone. Surprising even though stubborn and ADD they catch on quickly. If I'm can't watch him or not home he is in his crate with a couple chew toys. I'm no expert dog guy, hell I just got one and have learned from my dad, books, and other members of this forum. I do know I'm a Lab guy through and through and wouldn't have it any other way. I'm teaching him as well as him teaching me. Hope you figure something out.

All of ours are house/kennel trained. We are down from 4 dogs (Lab, Daschund, and 2 mutts) to just the Big mutt and dashund... Both of which are over 11 years old.. My lab was a great dog, but just looking for something a little different. I have considered a Chessie or Golden, but would like something a little smaller.. Anyone using Brittnay's?

Doc, we are at the point now to where he will sleep inside in his crate at night and stay in his kennel run while we are at work

Legends Second Time Around "Deuce". My 3 year old came up with deuce so it was decided. Thats a retrieving little dude for sure, but he definitely doesnt like to be in that kennel run. I watched him Houdini out the top which was about a 5 ft climb up welded wire.

I had an American Water Spaniel that was 40 pound and best dog I have ever owned to date. Got me a puppy on the way from Mallard Manor. Great breed, price and people.
