You know you're getting old when you can look around and start worrying about getting your social security. I've been putting in for awhile and would like to get something! When I look around at these kids today, I know I'm fugged. These "@#$%#" can't hold a job for a week! Ain't no damn way they can pay taxes.....

i'm 33 and can not believe the lack of work ethic most kids have today.

the other day I was questioning a temp (that had his app in for full time).....asked basic questions of why he did not do what he was asked and he jumped up in my face, started throwing his arms up in the air and saying "what the fu%* you want me to do, I'm working hard all day doing my job, man!". Kind of a big kid and I believe he thought it would scare me into backing off or something. Needless to say he hit the gate about 3 minutes later.

the problem is that 30 is the new 20. heck i know some men that are still living at home at 30+ maybe it's partly the parents fault allowing this to happen??

Funny as it is 20 years ago I thought the same thing about kids getting out of school in the early 90's, The same why My dad felt 60 years ago

funny you mention it....my wife's old parter who is now retired said just the other night "you know, since i've been retired i've noticed that a LOT of the 'young professionals' only work about 1/4 time.....they're out playing golf w/thier buddies, not even clients, by noon! it's gonna catch up w/them though."

I was taught at a very young age not to depend on social security for chit. It's a fact that by the time I reach the rightful age of 65 that it won't be around for me to collect. I will trust my own investments and set my own retirement plans, Pisse on Uncle Sam, healthcare and social security.

agreed, but when you get that point in your life, an extra $200 or so a month would be nice. especially since they been withholding from me since 1986. You would be a fool to rely purely on ss.

$200 a month wont amount to jack by the time me and huntersmky get to retire.....37 years to 65 for us . Like Hunter said, I was taught early not to rely on SS or Medicare so piss on all of it. Ditch SS, restructure healthcare to where we shoulder more cost and only use insurance when something catastrophic happens, and that will drive the prices down and free up the system from alot of frivolous visits.

I have been paying into ss since I 12. I have been vested in ss since i was 19 or 20. What amazes me is that with the unemployment as high as it is you cant find anyone that wants to work.

Let me tell you about the 2 kids I hired this summer for my lawn crew. I have been sick of hiring someone to run my lawn crew for me and decided to go back on the truck and do the work myself. So I hired these 2 young men to help me. I have picked up more new businees in this year and been more productive than I think I have been in the last 2.5 years since Dad passed.

I was very reluctant to hire the youth ministers son from our church. He is going to be a junior this year and goes to home school. However Mom and Dad have tought him work eithic. He works very hard and always strives to do a good job, he never complains. I noticed the other day he was running around a house we working at to get something off the truck. His dad makes him go over his hours every week and make sure his hours and pay is right and hold his tithe out. This kid has turned out to be one of the best workers I have ever hired. I guees its the little things to me but saturday we are working on a very large landscape project and he was digging up a shrub that was to be removed. Well he broke my 5 year old 10 dollar home depot shovel. He was ready to go to home depot and purchase me a new one. He was really upset about breaking it. I explained to him that the shovel was old and it was not a big deal but I did really appreciate him wanting to replace it and to care that he broke it.


I also hired a Senior from one of the biggest private schools in memphis that had some landscape experience. I was pretty reluctant to hire him but all these "experts" I had hired and fired in april and may I thought why not give the kid a chance. Turns out to be just like the youth ministers son. Works hard never calls in sick, shows up late, or complains about any job we do. Its always what do you need me to do. This kid even works nights at sandwich shop in memphis and works his familys 5000 acere farm when he is not working for me. I know he does not have to have the money his parents make good money he just wants to work.

There are a couple of kids I know at our school that are hard workers that run their own lawn services. But for the most part they are lazy as the day is long. Its not hard to tell on the field or in the weight room the workers.

Sorry for the long post. But if we dont get more kids involved in work and the outdoors I think our country is just gone.

I blame it on the parents and the way things come "easy" to kids now a days. I have been working since I was 10 years old, whether it was cutting grass, or doing yard work and yes I got paid, with food, clothing and shelter and occasionally a little gas money to get around. I bought my own first vehicle on a one year balloon note from the bank on the biggest POS Z71 you could possibly find, but guess what, it was mine and I worked for it and no one could take that from me.

Just this last Friday a lady in my office said her son was nervous because he was working his first job. I asked how old he was and she said "17" WTF, really, your son is 17 and he's just now working his first job??? Parents spoil kids now a days and that's the problem with the work force. I worked my way through college waiting table at the infamous Crawdad's, although my mother paid my rent and bought me a nice car for graduation, I paid for the rest of my education and had $18k in student loans to prove it when I graduated. It just absolutely blows my mind at what parents do for their kids from a monetary standpoint. I know guys who's parents bought their first house. Those type of people will always and I mean ALWAYS depend on some other form of financial help. I can assure you that extra $900 a month from SS would be nice, but I aint expecting it in todays time. I'll be lucky to see age 65 with the way the world is run today and the taking of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior out of everything this country was built upon and around.

There were lots of people who got benefits from SS that never paid in when this whole thing started. There will be lots of people who pay in and don't get squat when it runs out of money. Thanks FDR!!!
