Hey Benny,

I did the same thing yesterday over here in arkie land, except I was in my boat on the Ouachita River. I pulled into one old cypress brake and started easing through the trees and about 2000 mallards exploded out of the buckbrush. Those were the only ducks I saw in 4 hours of riding. I could have filled up the boat with deer though. Deer were everywhere.

I know you saw a bunch of ducks and so have i in the last week. but i have a theory on this phenominon. in most areas of the delta farmers have drained all the water they were holding for ducks. I started the last day of the season and all of my neighbors did the same that following week. that was over 3 weeks ago. this eliminates thousands of water acreas that were being used by our feathered friends. now the ducks are becoming more concetrated to the water that is still avalible. just a thought.

Well I was at work yesterday and a buddy of mine was riding his 4-wheeler across Roebuck from my shop and jumped up about 300-400 Mallards, gadwalls, and woodies. Then I went flying to day at about 5:00 p.m. and saw back in my duck holes still full of water thanks to my flat tailed friends and there was probally about 300 each in both holes and then for icing on the cake I found where the black oinking sobs sent the winter rooting around and will hunt them this upcoming weekend. As far as I think though yes there is less water around but in my humble opinion there is ducks still coming south, which is why I think that duck season should not start until the third saturday in December and run till the third saturday in Febuary that way we could get a shot at these new ducks just now feeling the could from up north.

That is why we leave our water for a couple of weeks, the so called imprinting. We will start draining our two fields in two weeks.

I hunt the very south end of Gaden Brake right as it opens up in to misquito lake there in Quito and while flying yestarday one of the local farmers had maybe 150-250 mallards, shovlers, gadwalls, and woodies in his hole not 15 yards from his blind. Me in my ways of thnking says that we are starting to see the last ducks comeing down form the north and here within a wekk -10 days will start seeing ducks head back north. As for me my holes will stay full or water till about about mid April and that will give me enough moisture to plant and bring up my group four RR soybeans and hopefully give them enough moisture to last through about mid June.
