Who is your favorite guitar player? We are not talking about bands here. We are talking guitar players. I have bands galore that I love but not because of the guitar. Of course, everyone knows a tight guitar makes the band (insert gay QuackheadBP winky smiley).

Post a video, give a reason, whatever. Make your case, long or short. Name the band. It doesn't have to be in any particular order. Name 3 and only 3. No honorable mentions. If you name more than 3 your kids will date naggers.

1) Luther Dickinson- he's from Mississippi, well mostly. He brings a modern day recognition to our state and is known throughout as a tuff mf'er on a guitar. He is what I inspire to be on a guitar. As far as guitars go, he is the Alpha, the Omega. He is to guitars what Gator is to beer brewing accidents. Dude has the hill country groove, women will tear their panties off at the sound of his licks. Do yourself a favor: disregard this video and go see this dude in concert. My boy, makes me proud! 2) Dan Auerbach- flunked out of college from listening to Junior Kimbrough CD's. If you're from Holly Springs and don't know who Junior Kimbrough is, you should be flogged. Just pure nasty blues rock. Plus he plays a Tele and it's just him and a drummer. 3) Duane Allman- the be all, end all of guitar. The guy invented "it". The song on youtube is the song that made him and subsequently the Allman Bro. famous( I love Wilson Pickett). Eric Clapton heard the song and when he heard the guitar solo starting at 2:45 he had to know who the guitarist was. Layla and Assorted Love Songs was made and the rest is history. Here are my three favorite:

Warren Haynes. He's just bad booty. Here is a clip from him playing with dave matthews at central park. Its a long clip, but its awesome. Neil Young wrote it and I think he covers it better than Neil. Notice somewhere when he's gettin down, how dave turns to his drummer and says "he's good". I like warren Haynes because he can and will play with anybody, young and old. He used to play with the Allman Brothers at one time. He's played with Dave Matthews and I've seen him with Widespread Panic and others. He also is the guitar behind Gov't Mule. Just a cool old dude. He was in Greenwood a few weeks ago and I saw him at The Hangout down in Orange Beach a while back. If you get to see him, I highly advise it.

While not a single artist, I figured I could get a two for one. This jam features both Jimi Hendrix and Eric Clapton, both epic guitar players, on the same song, which is one of two times. Written by Stephen Stills of Crosby Stills Nash and Young fame, the self titled 'Stephen Stills' album may be one of the best albums ever produced. See if you can pick out who is playing what.

John Mayer. Now before you laugh, he has two different styles. He has his "produced" teenie bopper stuff, but he also has a group called "The John Mayer Trio". He will go down in history as one of the greats, mark my word. He's got a blues guitar that rivals any delta blues musician that you've ever heard. Eric Clapton has a drug rehab program down in Antigua. He puts on a Crossroads guitar festival every year as a fund raiser. The last one was in Chicago. Clapton has asked John Mayer to come several times to jam with himself and a host of other legendary guitar players. Clapton has kind of taken him under his wing so to speak. What other kind of endorsement do you need. With that said, PBS airs a special called "Great Performances Crossroads Music festival". If you ever get a chance to check it out, I highly advise it. You'll probably never see that many great guitar players on stage at the same time.

Great post! Yall have posted some great names!

1) Phil Keaggy - Knew of him in High School, and had heard his story and his testimony. Its an awesome story! He is a very strong Christian, very humble, and a great guy. He is also missing most of a finger on his right hand. Went to College and was friends with his daughter(shes a cool girl!) and got to hear him at a few private parties. Dude is absolutely amazing! I had heard rumors that Clapton and Hendrix both said he was best guitar player in the world, when I asked him about it he said they weren't true at all. However, if hes good enough that the rumor even got started says something about his talent to me. 3.) With fame, Gary Baker and being in Muscle Shoals we get to hear some amazing talent regularly. My third goes to insanely awesome local talent.

John Mayer is a beast, no doubt. I watch that Cortez the Killer video about once a week.

My only thing with Morello, and I know it's the same old tune (because it's true), is that he uses so many damn pedals to get his sounds. If you'll take notice, his finger movement is minimal. Don't get me wrong, he can come up with some crazy chit, but derek trucks guitar goes from amp to axe.
