mechanic - motor question

I ran some bad gas through my truck last night. took me awhile this morning to get it cranked and when I did it was smoking pretty heavily and acted like it didn't have any power. What in the world could it be? will it correct itself by just letting it run or did I burn up a valve or something? I keep hearing a little ticking noise under the hood.

What about running SeaFoam or Heet through it.

replace fuel filter as well...if it was really bad gas (sediment in it), you may be in for a few filter changes.

thanks. I knew better than to swap to the auxillary tank.

change filters. drain tank and run a couple of high octane tanks of fuel threw it along with like some marvel mystery oil for carbs and you should be okay. worst case get some new plugs. bad gas can cause your plugs to gunk up

What color was the smoke? blue is oil, could be a broken valve spring, broken rocker arm etc that would explian the mis fire.
Did the smoke stop after it ran a few min, that would just mean your valve seals leaked some oil into the cylinder no big deal. The ticking could be a lifter not primed, it should stop after a few min of starting.
Black is fuel, the above mentioned should help.

thanks, ended up I had 4 bent push rods on the intake side. I replaced all of the push rods in the motor and it ran fine. Went out of town this weekend and cranked it up this evening only to hear a ticking sound again. Pulled the covers again and had one of the new push rods bend again. I replaced it and ran it for around two hours today and everything seems to be fine. only time will tell.
what in the hell could have caused the push rods to bend?

A stuck lifter, or the piston is hitting the valve from jumped time or out of time.
Bent valve.

That old gas is bad for vavles!! When it reaches a certain age it will leave a bad sticky residue on the valves themselves and cause the pushrods to get bent! Take tank off...and have it professionally cleaned out then clean out your lines and carb also...once you get clean tank of gas going through you shouldnt have anymore problems.
