Need vacation ideas september or october

Postby Greenhead329 » Thu Mar 17, 2011 6:38 pm

initially had plans for an elk hunt, but that has fallen through I have two weeks i can juggle either oct or september.
Thought about an antelope hunt now, snow skiing, scuba diving, or canada duck hunting (diy)
I know these are alot of ideas and different ones at that but I am mainly wanting to go somewhere to relax and get away and have a good time.

Ideally my budget is under 1500

Dude...Why'd you make the homeless guy pay for supper?

A DIY duck hunt in Canada is a lot of fun, and relatively cheap. All you need is a canoe, and 2 dozen floating decoys to kill a bunch of ducks. If you want to hunt geese too or want to field hunt the ducks, you'll need a good bit more stuff. Lots more decoys, layout blinds, and a lot more scouting will be necessary. Last 2 times I did it in Saskatchewan, my buddy and I would get a RM (Royal Municipality) map which shows all the land owners names in the area we were looking at. Then drove around the first afternoon we were there and marked a few spots where we were seeing ducks in potholes or marshes. Next asked the land owners for permission (9 out of 10 times they'll say yes) and you are set. You can scout in the afternoons or hunt sharp-tailed grouse and partridges. We had a blast. If you get real serious, you can shoot 8 mallard limits, but we had plenty of fun shooting mixed bags. One day the two of us shot mallards, pintails, gadwall, blue and green winged teal, canvasback, redhead, other divers, and passed on spoonies. Most of the ducks are still brown until almost mid October though.

You can also go to Key West and go flats fishing that time of year. Tourist season is pretty much over, and a great time to go. It will run more than $1500 bucks for the trip though. About $1000 a week for hotel, $500 a day for fishing, and food. Laying on the beach is free.

Used to go to Grayton Beach state park east of Destin in late September and camp out. Temps are comfortable that time of year and NOBODY was there - had the beach to ourselves. http://www.floridastateparks.org/grayto ... efault.cfm

If you have the gear already and want to relax and get away, nothing beats a float trip in canoes.
