what does a $500 gun cost ???

OK, my annual tax rant-and-rave. These Democratic clowns think we don't pay enough in taxes ? You HAVE to be kidding....

What do you, Mr. Average Joe, have to produce to buy a $500 firearm?
How about $982.63

It is taxed as follows:

FICA & FUTA (15.3%) $181.53
Income tax (25%) $296.63
State Income tax (5%) $59.33
Sales tax (7.5%) $37.50

So you have to produce $982.63 in income to buy a $500 gun. And this is for the middle of the road guys. For you guys who are really humping it and are in the 35% income tax bracket.... good gosh.

And then the excise tax on the gun manufacturer to make the gun, the tax on your fuel & vehicle for transportation to make the purchase, the tax they call a car tag, the tax on your land to store the gun, the tax on a case of ammunition that it takes to kill 10 ducks, the tax on your telephone line to tell lies to your hunting buddies  the 'tax' for your hunting license.

Robin Hood is my hero. the dude had the right idea....

It does seem ridiculous to pay so much in taxes. You're right on with the percentages and total amount if you are self-employed, but the numbers don't add up. By the way, is sales tax 7.5%? Does Olive Branch add an extra half of a percent? If you work for the man(not self-employed), it only costs $ 858.06 using 7% sales tax. Your employer pays the difference!!!

Total pay $ 858.06
Soc. Sec. & Medicare (7.65%) ( 65.64)
Fed. Income Tax (assuming 25%) (214.52)
State Income Tax (assuming 5%) (42.90)
Sales Tax (using 7% rate) (35.00)

I just bought a gun over $500 this past weekend. Pretty coincidental I guess.

you have to produce it for your employer to pay it... think about it for a second and it will make sense. you pay both parts of the 7.65%. part he writes a check for, the other part shows up on your statement.

and yes, many municipalities tack on some additional sales tax. .5% - 1% is common.
