Where to live in Jackson

Postby deltaman » Mon Mar 07, 2011 8:04 pm

Guys, I'm starting dental school at UMC in the fall and am in the process of looking for a place to live. I'm looking for a 1-2 bedroom apt/house for rent. I have a black lab that will live with me as well. If any of y'all have any recommendations on where to live I would sure appreciate it.

Buy a house in Barnett bend II. We did when I started law school and 3 years later, made money and sold it in 2 days.

I'm no expert on living in that area but my sister and bro in law live off Holly Bush road in Flowood in Reservoir East. They are nice, smaller houses in a quiet neighborhood. There are several other communities off that road too.

We just went through the same thing with my ole lady and housing for nursing school. Good luck with the search. I'm down here off of Northside drive with the crips and vice lords.

When are you planning on making the move down?

Laurel Park in Flowood or Mirror Lake off of courthouse circle. both nice places and centrally located. I lived in Laurel Park my first couple of years down here. Its nice, gated, bball court, weightroom, pool and walking track right next to dogwood mall. or do like lawdawg said and buy in barnett bend. those houses sell like hotcakes in there.

For a single fellow a place on the rez with a nice boat. I am sure its not the same without the dock though.

No its not

Take it for what it's worth, but I grew up in Rankin County...i will probably never leave Brandon. I love it here. I'm 28 and besides going off to college, this is all I have known. Your close to Jackson and everything but out of the city. I like everything about where I live now. That being said, if I was young and still like to do stuff, like to go out, going to dental school, and all that...i'd live in North Jackson or somewhere close. Rankin county is a nice place to live, and I am probably one of its biggest ambassadors, but there is not that much to do as far as mid 20's nightlife and food. Everybody our age is going to 'go out' in Jackson. You can do like me and take the risk driving back and using alot of gas, but you will spend more time up that way than you think. Yeah there are some thugs, and some precautions need to be taken, but if I were to do it over again, I would have lived in the N Jackson area....the rez isnt too bad, but moving to Brandon "proper" and you'd be driving 30 minutes to do anything.
