What kind of dog should I get

First thing first must be a family, calm manered dog. I have a small (3 yrs old) child. I want a dog that will be able to bloodtrail though. I dont really duck hunt that much anymore so its not neccessary to be able to retrieve. My son fell in love with a siberian husky this weekend just open to all options. Will not be looking to actually get one till end of summer though so any thoughts or opinions are appreciated.

You'd just be hard pressed to beat a lab if you're open to a big dog. They're just incredible pets, loyal, good with children, and can go anywhere.

Get a Dane, calmest dogs you will find and amazing with children. If you want to bring your boy up to play with my dogs you are welcome to anytime

best odds of having a family dog that can blood trail is a lab in my opinion.

There are probably several good breeds for being around children, but I agree with the other guys on a lab given that you want a blood trailer too.

Danes seem to have pretty good noses, although not as good as a lab or hound. I have heard that some people are breeding a dane/hound for coyote hunting althogh I am not really sure why. I would imagine that you could train on pretty easily to trail wounded game though.

Yeah them jokers are fast and when they are puppies and not trained they will take off after cats etc... Made the mistake of accidentally letting a buddies out of the pen.

yeah but don't Bloodhounds run of all the time. It would be hard to leave him in the yard if you were afraid he'd catch a scent and disappear.

Look into curr dogs if you want something besides a lab. Also I cant remeber the name but there is a small breed of dog(like jack russel size) that is supposed to be a great blood trailing dog.

You want a big dog or smaller? Thats an important question and will narrow your search considerably. Personally I wouldn't want a great big dog simply because I wouldn't want to buy the feed! A lab would be hard to beat.
