Does anyone know where you can find a shed dog in the holmes county area? I am interested in just seeing if i can get someone and their dog to come out for a day to look for sheds. Any info would be great.

I trained a black lab/chow mix, that was fixing to be euthanized, to retrieve sheds about 12 years ago, before it got to be such a popular sport....hardly anyone believed me when I said I had trained a dog that could find and retrieve sheds....ole Buddy was the best at it....prolly still got a 55 gal. drum full of sheds he found for me....he dropped dead, in my arms not too long ago.

So what gives? I'd think traing to "hunt up" same as bumper. How'd you train it?

RR, they find them by smell. The easiest way to do it is to start them young chewing on them. Then start hiding them and make it a game with a reward (same a most other things). Just remember you always want to run them with the wind in their face.

It's really neat to see them work.
