How young is too young to introduce a child to firearms?

I think it varies. My son is 5 (October 27) and started shooting a red ryder last year. This year, he went up to a gamo pellet gun with scope and has started shooting a 22. Hardest part is safety. No matter how safe they are because of their stature they still seem to be pointing a gun at someone or chance sticking the barrel in the ground.

Much the same here, started with bb gun at 5 then a cricket 22 at 6 and now at 7 he is shooting a 243 and killing deer. May start a shotgun in the spring for turkeys. I know a lot of people that start younger but mine just was not ready at least for me to feel safe for all involved.

My oldest started going deer hunting with @ 1 1/2, started with a BB gun @ 4, and now @ 6 he deer hunts with a 410, but still squirrel hunts with a pellet gun. My youngest @ 2 still has not gone hunting even though my wife said, "but you took Brent at this age." As far maturity, coordination, and skill level Brent and William are night and day. I just watch the way they play with toy guns and it will give an indication of how they handle a real one.
