First Band! & Mount Question?

Was really shocked when I walked out to pick up this one. Never been so happy to shoot a wood duck!
I decided this year that I wanted to get a duck mounted and now I am stuck between getting my first banded one mounted or my first Canvasback...Any suggestions?

I say it depends on the area you hunt. Mount which ever one is the rarest duck in that area. I downed a Canvas back in 2000 and didn't have it mounted because i figured that i would kill plenty more. Guess what, i'm 11 years older now and despite killing hundreds of wood ducks since then not one single canvas back. As a matter of fact i think i've killed almost every other species of waterfowl since then apart from another canvas back. The wedding band will look great on your call lanyard and if cans are rare in your hunting spot don't pass up this opportunity to put it on your wall. I wish i hadn't 11 years ago.

Congratulations.
I say don't make a choice. Mount one know and take the other after you get your first mount back. Just make sure the duck is stored really well.
I had Jeff King mount my first banned duck a few years ago and it was only $ 150.00. I'm happy with the work, so that might be cheap enough to allow you to mount both.

If you're only mounting one go with the Can. If it were a drake woodie I might would have it mounted but that hen would look kinda drab out there by herself. And how often do you kill the King of Ducks anyway? Go with the Can.

+1 on Jeff King assuming, assuming your talking about the one from around Corinth. He does really nice work.
