Boys having a great time this season

Postby brake man » Thu Jan 20, 2011 9:34 am

This season has been a lot of fun as we have had some great hunts with family and friends. Some of the highlights have been taking my 5 year old on his first duck hunts (he has hunted four times already this season), having my Dad along with us on our youngest's first hunt, watching both my both boys hunt together for the first time this season, seeing my older son (about to be 10) really grow up some this season and enjoy hunting with his new 20 gauge, spending time with family and several friends during the hunt and along the road for the four hour drive each way to hunt, shooting ducks that have covered us up at different times during the season, and many other tangible and intangible things. My youngest has shown great skill in napping during hunts as he has just lain down in the bottom of the blind or along the seat of the boat on each of his hunts. Guns a-blazing, sun in his eyes, low 30's with 10-15 mph winds, etc. have not bothered him one bit for his 1.5-2.5 hour naps. Still several more hunts to go this season, but has been one for the memory books, that is for sure! Here are a few pics.

That's awesome! I hope you're boys are able to look back on your hunts this year and realize just how fortunate they were to hunt with dad and grandad at the same time. People kill ducks everyday, but having 3 generations sharing a duck blind is few and far between.

I've got to get my dad in better shape so we can do the same with my boy one day. If I'm able to do that I will die a happy man.

I have been very fortunate to have spent a lot of time in the woods, in a boat, etc. with my Dad when I was younger and now to spend more time with him and my children, brother, and other family members. He tries to go at least once a season. Dad has gone with me on each of my boy's first duck hunts at the brake. I was hoping to get my daughter out this year, but it has been a little too cold for me to try a hunt with her. I sure hope Dad will be able to go when she goes next season. The brake was literally Dad's backyard growing up, and he spent countless hours hunting, fishing, and wandering on both sides of the levee by himself or with a friend or farm hand starting when he was about 10 years old. He tells some amazing stories about the numbers of ducks in the 50's and how they knocked his hat off one morning and bumped into his friend's gun barrel when it was still dark. "Good times!" sums it up well, mudsucker! :D

Those are GREAT pics! I wish my Dad were still here. He would never miss a hunt test.

Thats cool.

We talk all the time about what a hoot my dad would have today if he was still here with all the 'stuff' we have nowadays. 3 generations on a hunt together is just awesome. Thanks for the pictures, and Im glad you can see how lucky you are. travis

Coolest pics I have seen in while. Unfortunatly, it is rare to have your dad and your children with you, I hope the lord blesses my father with time to hunt with my son.

Thanks for the kind comments, fellas. Dad is 78 and not getting any younger so I try to enjoy each opportunity I have to talk to and be with him. Dad is the finest man I have ever known, and I hope to at least be somewhere close to the husband and father he has been all these years. Here is one of my favorite pictures of my Dad and my brother. Our friend took this of us several years ago. The other few pictures are of my Dad on my older son's first hunt when my son was four and from youth weekend a couple of years ago.
