i just purchased a browning abolt 270wsm and i am shooting 150 grain fusion bullets the past 3 deer i have shot it seems bullet just flies straight threw. some deer have went 50 yards and died and some i have not found with little or no blood. im trying to find bullet that does some damage on impact please give any info you can thanks chad

Shoot 130 gr ballistic tip he aint going no where

if they still made it, the fail safe is the best bullet for any .270 load out there. I am on my last box and dont know what I am going to do when they run out.

Ive had that problem in the past with my regular .270. Have shot corelocks, partitions, and several others. Switched to Hornady Superformance this year, 130 grain SST. Have killed two and its bad news. Both went about 20 yards with massive blood trail.

Thats what I am looking at...that or some type of Barnes. With a .270, a hard bullet will zip through with no expansion or blood trail, and a soft bullet will not get a complete pass through alot of times. The failsafe was awesome, but you cant get it anymore.

Do NOT get the new Winchester XP3 150 grain bullets that just hit the market this year. I hate them. I shot a Winchester silver ballistic tip in 150 grain prior to changing bullets to the new XP3 and loved that round. I never had a deer take a step in 4 years after being shot with that round.

On a softer note, I killed a good deer Tuesday with that XP3 and it didn't come out the other side but it exploded inside his body and did some severe damage. I was impressed but the deer ran 100 yards and piled up and I couldn't find but two specs of blood. I don't like not having a blood trail especially in the CRP I hunt in the delta.

Been shooting the 270 for deer since 1978 shotthe 150 gr first yr then switched to 130gr....have lost 2 deer....never lost or had one go anyfather than bout 40 yds with a ballistic tip...dont care to trail a deer just go pick him up or drag to the road.....hardly ever get a pass thru but ya dont need it when everything inside jelly.....

My father in law shoots the Core Lokt in that gun and it is deadly.

I've shot a couple of deer with a 7 SAUM with the Nosler Partition bullets........and Poole has as well and never found a drop of blood. If you don't hit bone, they don't separate/explode. The core loks definitely mushroom but the accuracy of those cheaper bullets don't seem to be up there.

biught my 270 wsm the year they came out. I shoot the winchester ballistic silver tip in 130 grains. Have 4 boxes in the safe. never had a deer run more than 30 yards. Me and my father shoot all the time and they are the most accurate in my gun. they do some major damage as well

Shoot the winchester supreme's in 130 btst It's a CPX2 bullet. Bout the best combination you can find for the wsm. Most of the 150's are CPX3's and were made for Mule Deer and Elk. It's a little to tough for whitetails and usually blow thru without doing much damage. Remember the .270wsm has basically the same ballistics as the regular .270 winchester just in a short action case. You don't have many choices of factory loads for this round

BR549 is right.. It is hard to find factory ammo.

You might try here http://www.cpcartridge.com/270wsmP.htm for some reloads.. Or start reloading yourself.

I posted this on another site. I wrote it a day or two ago.

I had the opportunity to sight in a friends 270WSM. It was a super light weight browning Abolt. Pencil thin barrel, rubberized stock. Nice gun.

When I got it dialed in it shot a great .453" 100yard group.

1"high at 100
Dead on at 200
5" low at 300

All in all I'm impressed with this factory gun and its pencil barrel. Granted the MRSP is 1900+ and I don't know what you could get it for in the store but out of the box sub 1/2moa and factory ammo is pretty hard to comeby.

I've always been a rem 700 fan but I may need to give ole Browning another look.

Now that being said bullet selection is mostly dependent on what shoots well in you gun. Bonded bullets (accubond, interbond, sirocco ect) and solids (barnes, GMX, etip) all expand better at faster velocities - this shouldn't be a problem with your 270WSM. MV should be around 3300 fps. Also they will punch through anything.

SST and ballistic tip bullets will fragment more and not have nearly the weight retention. They should do more damage because of the fragmentation. You can have a serious blood trail with either.

I think the ballistic tip and sst's of the world probably work a bit better on white tail. Never heard a foul word about corelokt and I bet the barnes will do some pretty good damage.

here is what a .264 130 Berger VLD will do to a deer. Just about zero blood trail believe it or not. The pic highlights the fragmentation. The entrance wound is large enough for both of my fist to fit in side by side.

I've had good luck with the barnes 130 g tsx. I shoot them in my 270wsm as well as my 270 wby. They also make a 110 g tsx.
