Should I be worried about finding several dead snow geese in a couple of flooded bean fields next to each other? No apparent signs of being shot. The geese are roosting in these fields at night and we jump them up when we go hunt in the mornings. Found a couple the other day, and could see two more today when I drove by to check for ducks.

Every time a flock of geese get up there are always a few dead ones. I think they get peppered by duck hunters and take a few days to die.

I think some must die of natural causes.

Yea I've had some do that when they got a look at My Face.. died right there on the ground and no shot fired...Wonders if I am ugly to them as I am to My x

It's very common. We find them on a daily basis. It's one of the 2 reasons listed above, natural causes or crippled and you just can't see it.

Be sure to pick them up, I've picked up 2 banded snow geese that were dead in the field like that.

yeah, but you're genetically hardwired to kill and/or find bands.........it's in the DNA man. me, well, the first one i pick up will most likely have a midget rattlemoccasin eating on it.

Hey Gator, I've got a snow and mallard band I've found on dead birds! Dad picked up 2 snows with bands on the same day 2 years ago, and watched another camp member's dog retrieve a 3rd.

I figured it was natural causes myself. Just didn't know if the bird flu was running rampant again or not. Picked them up, no bands or midget rattlemoccasins, but I really would have liked to have just seen either one of those...

Glad you're finally gonna make it up. Not sure if I'll be there or not though.

Just got word that some dead ones in the north delta tested + for avian cholera.
