Legality question

Does a mallard/something else hybrid count towards your limit of mallards? In my mind I don't think it does since it's not technically a mallard. This came up the other day.

Just read a long disscussion about this on another duck hunting forum.
It seems that it does NOT count against your 4 mallard limit, simply counts as a duck in your 6 duck limit. :D

However, since almost all Mallard Hybrids are male....
If it has a green head and a "lot" of mallard features, you might not want to risk it.

The only Mallard hybrids that are fertile are crosses with Blacks and Moulteds. All the rest, like the "brewers duck" (gadXmallard) are sterile.

God Bless you

we killed a couple one day several years ago and my friend called the warden and he told him he could count them as whatever he needed to fill his limit. if he had 4 mallards then they could be counted as "other ducks." every warden may not feel that way. best to find out before hand in case it comes up during a hunt.

In Tennessee, it counts as an other, however I can't speak for any other state.

I know for a fact after raising them with my dad in our aviary, Mallard x Pintail hybrids are not sterile. They can and will breed, and a 75% Pintail 25% Mallard looks exactly like a pintail.

Thanks guys. Kinda what I figured, that it counted towards an "other" duck, but just wanted to make sure. Wingman, you want to chime in here?

If I remember correctly, Wingman stated a while back he would no longer answer legal questions. I think it had to do with people arguing with him about the laws and the gw bashing that was going on.
