Let's spread the word about this youth camp. Wish I was eligible to go!

that is way cool. Id get tj to send in an essay, but honestly Id hate to take the chance away from a kid that might not have a hunting spot that weekend. But it is way cool. Wish they'd have the camp sans the hunt (i.e. out of hunting season) so the kids just do the weekend with the biologists and seeing the wetlands. travis

Looks like the deadline has been extended.

Those are good points goosebruce. However, I think the intent of the camp is help "hunting kids" better understand the importance of hunting to waterfowl conservation and to introduce "non-hunting kids" to what it all means. I knew a few kids that went last year, and they want to go again this year. It's too bad they're too old now. Tell all your buddies.

It is a well-rounded program. Last year Drake gave them a lot of cool stuff, Mr Joe Mac Hudspeth talked and gave them duck stamp prints, DW was there, retriever demonstrations were held, they were taught duck id using wings and such, field trips to wma and refuge impoundments were given and two super awesome game wardens spoke.

It was an excellent deal!

Something to this effect was put on by Mississippi State back in the late '90s over at Noxubee. I think it was called the "Waterfowl Workshop". I attended it twice I believe. I will have to give kudos to my Dad about giving me plenty of opportunities to learn more about ducks and duck hunting. I got my first duck call at the workshop and had Buck Gardner there teaching all of us kids how to call. The workshop was put on in the fall I think and then a hunt was put on in the winter time. It was some good hunting in the greentree reservoirs over there. Priceless experience. I will never forget it.

BTW, what hunting club in Quitman County is this camp being held at?

There's no such thing as an awesome game warden, wingy. Don't you know they exist just to rape our horses and ride off on our women? :)

I wish I had been involved in a camp like that when I was a kid... Never even heard about it.
