I'm a farmer and I hear alot of complaints about government subsidies.
My brother-in-law asked me if iI had checked the environmental working groups website that shows how much farm subsidy is paid to each farm. Well, Icheced the site and was shocked when I clicked on the top recipients for both 2002 and 1995- 2002. Duck's Unlimited of Jackson, Ms. was #6 in 2002 with $5,976,379 and #11 in 1995-2002 with $13,313197. These rankings are for the nation. After futher checking I found under recipient shares for DU most of the money went to Kansas, South Dakota, Nebraska. But they had farms in Arkansas, Mississippi, and the great hunting state of Hawaii!
The site is http://www.ewg.org
Look under top recipients.
I suppose they recieved money for crp and wetland programs? most of the farm in Ms. are in areas usually associated with deer not duckssuch as Claiborne County.
Kinda bothers me. Wonder who gets to hunt on these "farms"?
