The ATM.
That place is expensive.
Looking for 2 duck calls from Dominic Serio of Greenwood (ones for Novacaine)

you, too?? my wife took me to maui for my 40th. seafood is outstanding at the local joints, pretty sure the big island is where you can see the lava flow up close and personal. luau is good to get an indepth understanding of the culture and heritige on the islands, but don't count on the food to blow you away. you will come back with a very laid back state of mind and nice disposition on life...very friendly people there and you can't help but bring some aloha back with you - can't promise it will last, but it is refreshing to say the least! there are some good breweries popping up on the islands (drank a LOT of big wave ipa since it came in cans for the beach!) if you rent a vehicle and it isn't a jeep, at least make sure you get a convertible - jeeps are expensive, though.

get some valium for the plane ride - it SUX....we flew out of memphis to la, then la to hawaii - la to hawaii is the longest part of the trip. for a couple of months after we got back, we said that even if someone gave us a free trip to hawaii, we probably wouldn't take it just because of the plane ride....but we had an unpleastant experience on the way, playing musical planes and ended up on a smaller one than we started out on while going across 2500mi of open water w/my knees jammed up in my chin for 5.5hrs (and couldn't drink enough beer to make the valium knock me out!) .

Thanks Donia, I have been to Ohaou (sp) for work so I know about the plain ride. We got a jeep rented so we are good there. We are staying at the Mauna Lani so I am pumped about the trip. Gonna get to see the Ironman World Championships so looking forward to that also. http://www.maunalani.com/

those are what caught dog's attention the first time he saw her....it was love at first sight!! he actually said that on a show we were watching not too long ago - may have been their anniversary...they were both dressed to the 9's...or as "to the 9's" as he and beth can get!

Stay on the Kona side. It rains a lot in Hilo. The volcano is interesting and I would rent a car for a day and drive the entire island. There is some nice scenary. Visit the national park where the captain hook statue is and do some snorkeling. Everything is overpriced and in general Hawaii is a real dump compared to other places you can go for the same money or less. Have fun.

I lived in Hawaii for a few years, but I was on Oahu. Been to the Big Island a couple times and saw nothing but a bunch of black rocks until I got on up in the mountains then I saw a lot of sheep and turkeys. Of course I was training on the Big Island and could only see what the Army let me.
