how is your perferred jerk string rig set up? I use 3 bricks black surgical tubing and Hen, Drake, Drake, and then pull like all hell. Then when it snaps back it looks like two Drakes chasing a Hen!

we have 1 "master" duck for our set up for each jerk string we set up. we usually set up 2 separate lines to provide movement in 2 separate sides of our spread that send ripples throughout the spread. attached to the "master" duck are 2 different lengths of strings. one is only about 10' long and the other is probably 90' long. the short string is tied off to something opposite our blind/cover situation. be it a stump, a log, or just a stick we use whatever is available that is immovable to tie off to. between our "master" duck and our blind we tie slip knots and loop them around the keel of up to 5 more decoys and sinch them tight. the beauty of this setup is that when we are done, we have one duck with a bunch of string around the keel and the other decoys aren't attached to the setup because we simply loosened the slip knots and they were then able to be bagged up just like the rest of the decoys. there are no decoys that are permanently attached to each other and that provides for a hassle free, knot free setup in the pre-dawn darkness. granted we have to make up to 10 slip knots every morning (how hard is that?), but i will GUARANTEE it's a lot less work that trying to untangle black or camo decoy cord in the dark with cold wet hands while holding a flashlight. As far as distance from our blind its usually well with in shooting distance at most (due to string length) 30 yards. here's another hint, find something like a log, or some grass, just anything to lay over your string between you and the decoys so the string will be held under water. believe me, the string is very noticeable when being pulled even if it's black or camo! I have also found that tying your end of the string to a stick will keep your hand movements to a minimum (I don't wear gloves when hunting). You can twist your wrist just a very little bit and move a stick a foot or better. plus the stick is "natural" looking and as long as it's not moving toooooo outrageously much
the ducks won't notice it

I am in the process of putting one in at a permanent blind. The blind is built on stilts, 10 feet up in the limbs of a cypress. I made a "foot pedal", using a board and a hinge and bolted it to the floor of the blind. Then I ran the string straight up from the pedal to a pulley, forward to front of blind to another pulley, then down to the ground, parallel to the stilt to yet another pulley. After the last pulley, I will have the string go into about 40 feet of 1 inch pvc, buried in the mud, to prevent tangle ups in the jerk string out in the hole. I haven't decided how to rig the dekes, but am thinking about having four or five dekes, staked out in different postitions in about a 6 foot circle and the jerk string connecting to them all. I am using big scoop anchors with the neoprene straps that are really springy and provide ample movement. The pedal will allow me to call with one hand, hold gun with other and work the jerk with my foot. I call it the ACCELERATOR, hehe. Now, if I could just figure out something for my other foot to do. I may have to design a CLUTCH mechanism and drive them ducks right in to the LZ.
