Ok guys i have been hunting for awhile but have never learned to call because i have friends that are good callers. Just kinda wanna learn so i can say i can. I have messed with calls before and have just never gotten it right. Can everyone learn to call or are some people just not meant to be? And also what is a good call to learn on and some tips to get started? Thanks

Get a cd or dvd on calling and practice practice practice, and to answer the question if everyone can call; IMO no, not everyone can.

i would start out with an echo poly call. you can get an intructional cd like echos or buck gardner or rnt. they will help you get started. just listen to it riding down the road and blow the call in the truck whenever you are going somewhere youll get the hang of it. you dont have to be a great caller to kill ducks.

this couldnt have been said any better. other than that friends that call good can and will pick out bad notes and if they dont watch out can make you start bad calling habits to correct what they think you should do.

Everyone can do it.... get a copy of the duck dictionary by Kent Hobo Duck Calls... any call out there will sound like a duck... like others have said the ECHO poly would be an excellent choice to start out with... will do everything the big boys can do but half the price... Some of your friends might not be as good as you think so be careful when listening to them

Its best to start from scratch, forget everything you think you know and listen to some of the best... Callingducks.com has A ton of useful info... good luck

I'd start-out with an Olt D-2........go ahead and get it out of your system........it'll make you really appreciate an easier-blowing call. If you can blow a D-2, you should be able to use anything.

Of course, once you learn a little bit about calling, you may migrate back to the D-2 in 20 years. The guys that can blow a D-2 style call can break'em down from the ozone if the birds are receptive to calling at all. JJ Lares makes a nice little call similar to characteristics of the D-2 reed and channel.

Main thing is - just get a call and work with it.

If learning to blow the call is your goal then you're going to have to put your time in. As others have mentioned, get a cd that you can pop in while you're driving around and blow the call everyday as much as you can. Good luck

get the Buck Gardner cd and after awhile you'll be hearing "three blind mice......three blind mice.......three blind mice, quack quack. in your sleep Good Luck

I wanted to add its not so much being able to call ducks as it is knowing when to call

Go buy you the Buck Gardner call and CD combo pack and practice in your truck.. It won't take long and you'll get the hang of it.

The only reason I would listen to a cd of you calling is to show a first timer what not to sound like!

In Louisiana all you need is the homemade woodie call pppppppppppppppuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuoooooooooooooo ooooooooooooooooooooooooooowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww wwwwwwwwppppppppppppppppppppppppppp

I like the new Zink calls dvd/call package. its relatively cheap and i find it works. nothing comes close to the real thing so either put out the hours in the marsh and listen or but a cd of live ducks. good luck and remember it doesnt happen over night

EXACTLY Anyone can learn how to hail call and otherwise feed call yourself out of a limit. The real kicker is learning how to judge ducks on the wing and figure out what they like and dislike. I'd say from my personal observations on myself it took me 4 years to actually learn how to "work" a duck. This far south the less calling you can get away with usually the better, you've gotta think the ducks have been seeing spinners and hail calls for oooo about 1000 miles given where they're coming from. The smartest ducks make it south. Think about it.

Im not really wanting to learn to call so that i can constantly blow at every duck that passes. The main reason i want to learn is just to pretty much say that i can do it..and just in case a day ever comes up that i need to call. Trust me i know that most of the ducks around here are more afraid of a call than attracted to it. Just wanting to become a more well rounded duck hunter.
