Lease prices goin' down? Look, if you thought the price was reasonable enough to get-in, there's 10
other folks out there, willing to pay more........just to keep someone
else from gettin'-it.
'T-talker'.......your quest is noble, but I wonder if you'd have the same view if you'd paid a lease fee, made 4 trips at 2-1/2 hours (one-way) per trip, hunted 7 times and never pulled the trigger.
(WHAT??)
It's gotta get better, 'cause it can't get much worse (unless I go over there 4 more times with the same results). Sure, I'm able to enjoy the sunrise and being in the outdoors with friends, but frankly, I don't know too many folks that'll go through all that trouble to watch the sun come-up.
The thing I miss most when the ducks aren't here is..........uh....well.... the DUCKS! Oh, I know where I can go and watch ducks all day, but that isn't quite what it's all about, either.
I like to work mallards into the decoy spread, watch their feet drop and hover over the decoys at 20 yds, admire them a little, then watch'em come-apart and hit the deck. Then I like to watch the dog do her thing. Then I like eatin'em.......and puttin' enough in the freezer to have enough to last the year. I like anticipating opening day, the next day.....and any day I can go duck hunting.
If folks don't really like killin' ducks, why don't I see more of'em totin' video cameras and goin' after'em any other time than 'the season'? Again, I know what you're saying, but everyone reaches a point where enough is enough.......I'm not in this just for the romance, any more than I am for 'the kill'. But I'm not gonna mince words, here.......'ain't a damn thing wrong with killin'em, and I'm not one-bit ashamed of it, when I DO.
I've hunted with some folks on here, this year.....and I think all of'em will attest to the fact that I'm real picky 'bout what kinda shots I take.......and how few times I actually take the safety off. Hell, 'Timberjack will tell you about the pair of mallards that I worked into the hole one morning, while my gun was hanging from a limb.....and it wasn't 'til they dropped their feet that I reached for the gun. 'RL James' will tell you I 'bout won't shoot at a wood duck, period! He'll also tell you I can't hit'em, anyway.

But the point is, I'm not out there to kill everything that flies over.
I'm going in the morning again......and am just as excited about the prospects as I was prior to opening day. And if I get some mallards hovering over the decoys at 20 yds.......you can bet your booty I'll be trying my best to kill 3 of'em, STONE DEAD!
Frustrated?.......naw, I'm like this all the time.
