which decoy bag ???

Postby MemphisStockBroker » Thu Jan 01, 2004 9:41 am

I need another :x new decoy bag. Have been using Avery's square bottom ones that are plastic coated, but my pintail dekes keep poking a hole in them. Some of the others I have used rot during the off season, and many of them tear where the strap connects.

Don't want one of those prissy custom bags where each decoy sits in its own little special slot....

suggestions ???

Decoy Bags

Postby greyduk » Thu Jan 01, 2004 11:12 am

Broker, I replaced a couple of bags this year with Cabela's Square Bottom bags. They are very reasonably priced and come in three different sizes. The decoys don't hang on the sides taking out or puting in. I have some of the new Greenhead Gear Pintails in one of the bags and have had no trouble with the tails trying to come through. I have been very happy with them so far. Hope that helps.

I got a Drake brand bag that has a wide bottom and a thick plastic loop aroung the mouth. It makes getting dekes in and out of the bag real easy. Seems to be very durable too.

dont stop what works, I have tried every kind of bag known
and after one or two seasons they are riddeled with holes
and no longer hold decoys

now all I own are AVERY bags they are tough and durable
and are almost indestructable

Hey MSB, I've got one of the el cheapos from Academy. I think I paid $10 for it. I got it 3 or 4 years ago and it is still in great shape. It has a draw string top, double straps and it holds at leat 5 dozens decoys. I also have some pintail decoys and they have yet to bust any holes in my bag. I do have a couple of small holes, but they came from catching on snags in the boat etc. I'd recommend giving it a try--hell of a lot cheaper than the Avery bags and for $10 what do you really have to lose?

Hope this helps.

I got one of those new DRAKE decoy bags that stands up, its worth the money! I have been buying sheap ones for the past couple years and its like everything else that is cheap, its bound to break or bust. It is also way easier to get decoys in and out so it saves a little more time and effort.

thanks for the info.... will try your suggestions.

the only time i have seen a drake bag, a buddy of mine was using it. he was showing off, throwing a decoy in this bag that stands up on its own..... when my lab decided to jump in the bag and retrieve the decoy. was quite a site....

The Drake standup bag is the deal. And, for those slow days like we've had lately, you can pass the time playing "decoy hoops" with your hunting buddies. Anything past 15 feet is a 3 pointer....

You guys are right about the stand up bag. I bought one right before the season started and it is awesome. Best damn bag I ever owned. We play decoy hoops every mornin and it puts a little excitement in the hunt after you don't kill anything!

Flambeau Chesapeake Floating Decoy bag, $30. I've lost some avery bags before cause they didn't float. Do a search for them on the net, should find them.
