I got a nice pm on my previous post advising me that if I have ever used a robo then I am not a "true" hunter.....exactly what makes a true hunter???


Is it that guy who gets to his spot 2 hours early only to have some jackass show up 20 minutes before shootin light put out 2 dozen dekes and 3 robos and skyblast the birds away?

Is it the guy who carries a kid on a youth hunt so that another jackass can drop GD and F bombs 100 yards away loud enough for everyone to hear??

Is it the guy who gets to his spot only to be joined 1 hour later by 2 aholes who claim that he is in their spot in a WMA and he must go...they left with some encouragement

Is it the guy who takes his 60 yr old dad hunting on public land only to have 6 guys meet them at the car and threaten to whip he and his father for hunting in "their" spot >>>>>>sidenote......the ringleader of that group will advise you what the frontend of an 870 looks like when I am outnumbered and pissed..

All of the above have happenedto me.....whether to use a robo or not....I don't really give a &^%$.........I have done this for 19 years with and without.....those who know me know I live it and love it......I don't start S^%t.......I just want to enjoy nature and the hunt

Greenhead I would say you are a true hunter. Any one who calls a football game at Sothern Miss in H'burg till 11:00 pm then drives 5 hours just to duck hunt the next mourning in my book is a true hunter. Any who breaks ice on a cold Jan. morning and tears his waders only to stay out thier for 4 hours is a true hunter(and half azzed crazy). I have shared many a morning with you now and your almost as gung ho as I. So whoever would judge a hunter on whether they use a Robo duck or not is probably the same guy looking real hard at you using the urinal.

a good hunter is one who appreciates having the chance to hunt and shows respect to his fellow hunters.if that person uses gojo gadgets or not is totally up to them.i have been confronted and set up on just like anyone else here has.i have never nor will ever bully or come within 100 yards of anyone else because that is just not right.i will not down anyone for using gadgets because i have and will if need be.all in all the good hunter just loves being there.

As technology evolves, so does hunting....if you aren't considered a hunter cause you use a robo-duck, you could argue you aren't a hunter unless you kill the duck with a rock or a stick...If the law says it's legal, run with it..no sense in you NOT having one ,cause someone who you obviously don't care a rats booty about, says it's not REAL hunting...I say if you think it helps, go for it, and good luck

A good hunter is one who has respect etched deep into their person and uses that as a foundation for everything else they do. Being a good hunter is a lot more than having woodsmanship skills. Being a good hunter is not just limited to respecting your fellow hunter, but above all, having respect for the wildlife one pursues. A good hunter is not one who just takes, but one who also gives. Do you put backmore than what you take? Do you contribute to worthy conservation programs? Do you take a kid hunting? Do you set an example among the nonhunters that is good overall for huntings image? Are quick clean kills one of your highest goals?

A good hunter is not necessarily the one who kills the most. Think about it. Many rogue hunters kill the hell out of game. But, they have no respect for wildlife or anything else. Hunting is a hell of a lot more than a kill. Learn that and you are far ahead of anyone else. What you use to achieve your kills will be irrelavant, as you will only use those tools and methods that you believe are respectful in your pursuit. Hunting really is a sacred priviledge. A life is being taken even if it is just some dumb animal. Use the power God has given us with wisdom and respect.

Sheesh.....and I thought public hunting was tough up here.

Follow the "do right" rule and you will be percieved as a good hunter.

Do Right Rule: If "it" ain't right, don't do "it". If "it" ain't right by not doing "it", do "it".

Hope your feeling better greenhead. The last weekend is showing snow and ice for the delta, that is if the weather experts are right this time.

Greenhead, I will not contest the fact that you are a "good hunter", that you are. However, I know a person who took some of you all hunting on their land 3 years ago anytime you wanted. Even gave some of you all permission to hunt when they were not there. For that one year the hunting was exceptionally good. Since then, their hunting land has taken a turn for the worse. Since, that time you all have moved on to beter holes and hunting, and have yet to call and return the favor.

I am not writing this post to call you out or question your hunting abilities, you started the post; and in my opinion somewhere embeded in that definition of being a "good hunter" is a person who remembers others when they move on to greener pastures.

If i break ice, rip waders, and kill flying ribeyes on someone's trash.....they WILL kill greenheads, stay dry, and watch decoys moving in perfect motion on my nest...even if takes 10 or more times.

Being a good hunter is about being in love with the whistle of the wings the soft chuckle of a hen mallard 15min. before shooting hours. But most of all it is about respect for the waterfowl we hunt and other hunters.
