Another NOLA question

Postby deltadukman » Wed Jun 02, 2010 10:07 am

I'm gonna go down to a friends apartment on Chartres soon. Stayed there several times and know the area well. I know alot of the places th eat, but to go to a few I havent been to...always with a group that wants cheap bland food or something else. I have a few questions. I have been to Port of call, Luke, Mr. B's, but what I want to know is what are some of the good breakfast/bruch places? What range is a dinner for 2 with just a few drinks, not many, at Dick Brennans? Restraunt August, what price range is the menu sampler? For those that live down there, are you still able to get fresh fish, and whats the deal with that? Anything else I'm leaving off? We like steaks and seafood.

I was there a few weeks ago and all the locals stated that most the fish came from west of the Mississippi so you shouldn't have any problem getting fresh seafood. As for the rest, I can't speak for that. I did have a great dinnner at Galatoire's one night when I was there. there sampler app platter is the bomb and so it the fried softshell crab.

You also have got to hit up Middendorf's on your way home Sunday, and if you feel generous, please grab me a scrimp and skinny cat plate :D

Yes you can still get fish. Most of our shrimp are coming from texas but that isn't a huge deal except for our economy. If you want to eat any of the brennan's establishments its an easy bill fifty for two with drinks. there are so many places to eat in this town its not even funny. If i was going to spend money to eat a nice meal, go to Irene's. Its my favorite resturante in the city, but it is also pricey. Another good place to eat that is cheaper and its uptown is Jacquimos on maple street. Take some time and look at this website http://www.nomenu.com hope that helps out.

Price range of the menu sampler at August is really high, it was good but you're paying for presentation.. I'd rather take that $$$ and order what I wanted...

My wife and I ate breakfast at Brennan's on Royal during Jazz Fest this year. Had a breakfast cocktail and finished it off with Bannana Fosters, our bill was around $90-$100 before tip. Dress was casual and the staff and service was top notch. Hope this helps

if you want to eat Besh, go to his other place Luke. It is open for Breakfast /lunch/ and dinner, I like it better than August and its less than half the price.

i love that place for brunch....

i always fill up before the $$ runs out and leave feeling guilty that i couldn't eat as much as paid for, but then think, the jazz bands are always good, the bloodies are always great, and the ambiance has always been more than pleasant...

My wife and I went to August last year. The menu Sampler with wine was $ 230. It was high but really good food. So just depends on how much you want to spend.

if you havent been to court of 2 sisters you have got to go. it is my favorite brunch spot. they have cook to order omelets and egg benedict, grits, sausage etc. they also have jambalaya, etoufee, gumbo, salad bar, boiled crawfish and boiled shrimp and 2 folks can eat there for less than $80. GET RESERVATIONS you will not likely walk in at this time of year.
