one week...no smoke
Been smoking for 17 years. I'm 37 have 3 sons and 2 step sons and decided that I really want to be able to play with grandchildren one day. Don't really want my wife to bury a 50 year old husband either. Decided last Sunday to put the cigarettes down and did! Been tough, but I'm determined to make it!

It's stuff but hang in there. I smoked for 13 years before I quit which has been 3.5 years now. Don't let some random event be an excuse to smoke.

keep it up.. great unselfish decision. Take that money you would be spending on cigs and start up a savings account. you'll be amazed how much it adds up to be. use that saving account for your child down the road or save it to buy them something really special.

You've got it beat. Just don't, don't, DON'T get curious 2 months down the road and smoke the first one ever again. I've quit for as long as four months before and think I can "try" just one more; doesn't work.
Re: one week...no smoke
Good choice! I did the same thing for the same reasons on November 13th 2006 with no regrets since then.
Added 30 or 40 pounds though!!!

Re: one week...no smoke
Many congrats. I smoked for almost 20 yrs. Quit (permanently) in Jan. 2001. Best goal I ever achieved. I've not had one since.
As others have said, NEVER think "I'll just have one". Not for a reward; not to soothe a bad day. Stay strong. Best of health!

I also quit last sunday. This will be my second go round. I quit last year for a few months then a weekend full of golf and beer got me started back.

You made a great decision, like someone said, take the money you normally spent per week and put it away for the kids,, proud of you.
