Anyone know how the oil Spill is effecting the beaches? Or will it. If so where would be a good alternative beach to book a vacation to?

Have you ever been to amelia island? It's right there near where florida and georgia meet on the atlantic. We're going there next year and hear from several that have been that it's real nice.

my wife just got back sunday and said it wasn't bad, but that was before the front came through (they left early sunday morning, so they didn't go down to the beach). have heard since then that they found tar balls somewhere along that stretch, but they don't know if it is from the spill or not. she said there were 2 weddings on the beach, but other than that it wasn't crowded saturday at all.

I just got married there the 1st and we were there till the 5th and it was fine. I think it has pretty much stayed away from that area so far.

They (tourism/fishing/etc...) must be hurting because I am getting 2-3 emails a day from Zeke's Marina that explains how everything is fine, fresh seafood in the restaurants, and they are catcing fish. Must be having a lot of cancellations.

I was down in Gulf Shores last weekend and everything was normal, but they did have some tar balls wash up on Dauphin island. Gulf shores wasnt nearly as crowded as usaual but this is usually a slump time (after spring break and the snow birds leave and before summer break) but that part was actually nice.

We put the boat in under the 59 bridge at the intercoastal and there was a crew there with 2 tractor trailer loads of oil boom and boats headed to put it out when we were taking out about lunch. Oyster bay was already boomed off, so I guess they are getting ready for it.

From what I understand Dauphin island has been dredging up a sand bar off the main beach to try to stop it from coming on shore and have some sort of wall across the back side of the island.

"Go west, young man!"

Forget about Alabama and the oil slick. Go to Cameron Parish, LA's Holly Beach aka. "The Cajun Riviera"!

gulf shores should be fine but if you want an alternative try Seaside, FL. it's just past Destin. it is a hidden treasure for sure. laid back and you can walk or ride a bike wherever you need to go. it is definitely a good place if you have kids or just want to relax. there is no party scene there. its where they filmed The Truman Show.

Flag Island. I can even arrange for a scenic boat tour to see the lost city of Eddies Island.

I just got back from a race at Panama City Beach and it was wonderful. I will second what they said about Seaside. I had never heard of it and was visiting Destin last year. I took off on my bike for a long ride and wound up in Seaside and was astounded. It is very laid back beautiful place and located b/w Destin and Panama City.
