Northdakota hunting trip

Postby duckassasin » Wed Apr 07, 2010 5:32 pm

Me and my dad are planning a trip to ND next fall and was wondering if any of you guys have hunted up there and if so did you hunt with an outfitter or public land? my little brother is stationed in minot so we are going to try and hunt some where in that area. please no smarta$$ replies about internet scouting or talking about taken some ones spot or any crap like that, im a veteran duck hunter and know how all these topics turn out on a public forum. We are just trying something new for once and decided to try a trip up there so any info or advice to hunting up there would be appreciated.

I hunted with Northern Flight guide service in Devils Lake. We stayed in the Woodlands resort. Real nice set up.

North Dakota is one of the few last remaining places on earth, I've heard and come to believe, that it's probably best to self-hunt if you've got the time.

i hunted in s dak back around halloween of last year.. we were about 35 miles south of the n dak line.. extreme s.e. north dak.. we decided to drive up into n dak one day just so i could take a look around... you see the n dak sign in the picture below.. just on the other side of that sign was a big lake with goobs of birds on it.. and guess what no posted sign...

now seein is we had done droven all that way.. and see'n is in north dak if the land aint posted you can hunt it.. and this land not being posted and this here lake holding a few thousand birds on it.. and us havin our gear with us and not havin no n dak hunting lic..

well wtf.. we rolled the dice and lit out for that lake like gh22 huntin for some punannay... howd dam we were on the quick-step it was about 11 in the a.m. when we spotted all these duck.. mainly greys and teals...

anyway.. it was me and two guys about the size of jabba the hut... we'll on the way to a little point on the lake. junior hits a tar-hole.. he's f'nb stuck up to his gentials.... we try to get him out but he insists that he aint never like duck hunting and just to leave him there until the summer time.. so we say to hell with him and make way for the aformentioned point...

oh yea.. we ran them off the lake.. and hell yea did they come back... like flies cirklin a bulls nut sac did they come back.. everwhere.. we shot outta bullets in a short order and shot our limit and went ahead and double dipped just for good measure... now heres the best part..

ya'll remember ol junior that got stuck in the tar-pit... that lard booty kilt his 6 birds in 6 shots stuck in the mud and one' of'em was a banded spoonbill.....

disclaimmer... half the above story is complete bullschit.. the part about us hunting.. there were a crap load of ducks just on the other side of this n dak sign.. and no posted signs.... we coulda we shoulda.. if my auntee had nuts she be me unkle..

GO! DIY......went 3 yrs ago on our own, most landowners will let you hunt. However, remove any DU sticker, logo or any of the such and you will be able to hunt more. You will not be sorry you went.
