Been hunting the past two days around Starkville... Man, its slow, but thats to be expected with the weather... Ive hunted pretty hard yday and today and have yet to hear a bird. Got friends hunting around, they arent hearin them either. Also got buddies huntin around Grenada and around Lexington. Birds quiet there too... I guess there just really really henned up. What are they doin where your at? I know how it goes this time of year, but I really expected to a least hear a gobble or two at daylight. So far from my reports, east-central Miss. and cental MS is quiet. I have heard that in the delta, behind the levee, gobblin has been pretty good, esp in the Vicksburg area. Yall stay after them, i know I will...

amite county claimed several birds yesterday but it wasn't because they came in hammering and all fired up, i know of one that got shot off the limb

and another one was victim of a crawl'em situation. you gonna have to be where they wanting right now. they tearin it up on the limb but when they drop the landing gear, they go into silent mode.

hit or miss in the northern part of the state. some birds are hammering even on the ground. others want to just let one or two out. This morning was dead quiet for me, but my buddy had two gobbling in the tree and one on the ground, but just barely survived.

Its been mighty quite in my neck of the woods. Never heard a peep this morning and wouldn't have known a bird was anywhere around if I hadn't heard him pitch down behind me. He started getting nervous about seventy yards out when he didn't see anything resembling a hen in the pasture. Once he got spooky I let him ease on out. I know where he stays at now as we say in Lowndes County. I'll be back after him later this week.

It's quiet up here in N. Alabama too!(Scottsboro area) Did have a really nice 3 or 4 year old come in yesterday morning and we took him. Didn't say a peep on the ground but did gobble twice on the limb. Nasty wet and crummy conditions but I really think that he came in quiet because that's just what birds with spurs like he had do. He was eyeing the decoys and came tiptoeing in. Little over 1 1/4 and over 20 lbs. Heard of two other birds taken up here yesterday also but they weren't gobbling either. It was our opening day up here, by the way. Hunted in Webster County on the youth hunt and we killed a nice 18 1/2 lb. two year old last Sunday. Fifteen year old that made his last youth hunt and it was his third year in a row to take a turkey on the youth hunt. Have some pretty good video and will put it on here if I can figure out how to do it. They were hammering that morning. Heard every sound that a turkey makes that morning! Great hunt and a great way to start the season.

I hunted another place this morning and not a peep. We must have covered 800 acres and never heard a single bird.

I hunted in Scott county and the north portion of Smith and Jasper from Saturday morning through Tuesday afternoon. I didn't hear a bird gobble on the roost until Tuesday morning and the places I was at are full of birds. I called up some jakes and hens but they were quiet too. I know of a few people around there who have heard some on the roost but get quiet when they hit the ground. Still early and not quite hot yet. Give em another week or so and I think it will heat up.

Looks like a little warming trend over the next day or two. I bet things will get a little livelier.
