Do you shoot divers?
You know I was over at a buddy's house this week watching Phil Roberts shooting them Jacks as he call them. Why in the he11 would a man want to shoot them dang birds. I can't even begin to imagine how many divers I let fly by in my time.
Never have aquired a taste for em and won't shoot nothing I won't eat.
So tell me guys how many of you shoot them nasty booty birds and if you do, will ya eat em.
Don't tell me it is how ya cook em either, cause you can't add enough garlic to hide that damn liver taste.

All we take mostly in the Cooper River here in SC is ringnecks and some Bluebills. I guess it is just what you was raised with but I can't hardly tell the difference between a diver or a puddle duck.I do realize that the best in my opinion is a teal then a Summer duck, but a diver ain't bad. I know I am going to catch a lot of flack about that but its how you cook them. Later

Duck is a relative term depending on where you live (hunt). Ifn I lived in a God forsaken place where there werent nuffin but jack, then Id shoot jack. Well, until I moved that is. They are fun to shoot, Ill give em that. We shot a buttload of them in ice 3 years ago, tried to skin em but it was a losing battle. Gave a sackfull to some brother's, and aint shot one since. And id shoot nice drake can ifn I get the chance again, but itd be for mounting and lookying, not for eating, you can keep dem things too. Never seen a redhead kilt, but heard bout a few strays showing up sometimes. travis

not the duck of choice if i have a choice, but like someone said, they go good in gumbo and stews.... i happen to have an elderly lady near by who loves any kind of duck... it does me good to carry her a few every year...
my best shot memorie was the last day of season year before last, a group of tight knit birds decided to fly us over, me and my buddy shot 3 times each and totaled 11 shovelers.... dangest thing i ever seen... the little lady was so proud of her ducks... she passed away this spring so i may pass on them divers from now on..

If you like oriental food take unplucked scrap ducks to a Chinese restaurant and give them to the owners, cooks whoever.
You'll be in free Chinese the rest of your life. They love em they don't care what they are. I used to give them to the one up North, shovelers, bluebills, you name it they love em!!
I was their big round eyed hero.

Like with everything else if you know how to cook them there good to eat. Bluebills, or Blackjacks as we call them, are damn good eatin. They are seed eaters anyway...just because they are divers doesn't mean they just eat fish. I gaurantee I could cook you up some mallard, teal, and blackjack breasts and you would not be able to taste the difference...I've done it.
Now, I will say that dos gris start to taste a little strong towards the late season. After they've been in the coastal marshes awhile they start hittin the fish pretty good.

Heck yeah I eat them been eating them all my life and cant tell a differance. Kinda like a spoonie most folks wont eat them but to me they are mallards with big lips. I kill every legal bird I can, and why not?

I don't shoot a lot of divers but I will shoot some. I will hammer dos gris/ringnecks in a rice field cause if they been eatin' rice they are some fine eatin! I will also shoot some if my grandma asks as she can cook some of the best duck gumbo with "bad eatin" ducks I know of, it will flat nock your socks off. I would love the chance to shoot a canvasback. Never have gotten in on them. Had them come in before, just never connceted. Guess I will keep on tryin.
