Since the season is almost here, and it won't be long till the greenheads start gracing our presence, I want to encourage everybody; that doesn't already, to keep a log of their hunts. Document things like number of birds harvested, species, location, and all that stuff, but also make note of other things that happen. We all know that the number of birds killed doesn't always represent the magnitude or enjoyment of the day. We may think to ourselves "Well, I'll NEVER forget today, it was awesome!" Sorry to say that more than likely sometime down the road we forget parts of even the most memorable of hunts. So if there is an awesome sunrise, or you see a bald eagle, or you have good, memorable conversation w/ a hunting partner, or whatever, make note of these things-they are as much a part of the Duck Hunting experience as the harvesting itself.

I've been doing it for a couple of years. It's neat to go back and read about the hunts. We even had some sheets printed and made a folder w/ things such as overall hunt rating, shooting, # , species, location, weather, and hunters.

My dad has kept a log for years. He started doing so when I was a boy. I am 28 now and love to browse through those old memories. I know I will cherish them even more one day when he is gone. I now keep a log myself and have found it even more worth while to include pictures in the log that make the memories come to life even more.

Our camp has been keeping a log since about '95/'96. it's very funny to go back and read about pasts hunts. We leave our logs out on the coffee table in our camp house for members and guests to get a chance to read them.

I am planning on doing that starting this year. What is a good log book to get? I have a 7 year old and want to keep the memories with him. Thanks
