Pending final approval from the USF&W, the MDWF&P voted 5-0 to change the season to a 60 day season with one split, Dec.1 - Dec. 23, Dec. 26- Jan. 31. If USF&W does not go through with the proposal, then the season would revert back to the original dates. Of note, the change would add weekdays to the first 2 weeks of December and one day, Jan. 31 at the end. It would also close Dec 24 and 25, which under the 51 day plan would have been open. Other than that, its the same. Basically they opened 11 days and closed 2.

I hope they change it, but i'll do whatever the lawmakers say. I don't think I'll be able to stand it hunting for a weekend and sitting around for 5 days waiting for the next weekend! Keep us posted.

Why do they close the duck season when most people take time off work?

I don't understood why they have closed the season around Christmas a couple times in the last few years (1999 and 2001). I have no problem with it being closed on Christmas day, but don't a lot of people get time off around Christmas? I know I do, and I would have enjoyed hunting Christmas Eve morning.

Trade another random week day [like Monday December 3 for example] for Christmas Eve so more people have the opportunity to hunt.

Just my opinion.

Just goes to show you that this possible 60-day season isn't for everyone. They are taking two days that people will have off and will have the ability to hunt on and giving us two wasted weekdays.

I DOUBT TO MANY OF US WITH YOUNG KIDS WOULD BE HUNTING CHRISTMAS AM ANYWAY. WE USED TO HAVE THANKSGIVING AT DEER CAMP. MAYBE I WILL LOBBY FOR CHRISTMAS AT THE DUCK CAMP; I'M SURE THAT WILL GO OVER WELL W/ THE WIFE.

Okay boys, we're gettin' our 60, let's don't go and ruin it. Weekdays, weekends, it doesn't matter to me, but I predict it to be another chilly one this winter(psychic) and we will not have to many woes with ducks moving back into the frozen netherworld of Arrrrkansas. I do wish that they would open it on 24 instead of 1...but hey, I'm happy with 5 days of hunting..not too good for biz though

Call me stupid, but I liked the original dates. If MS shoots everyday for the 1st 3 weeks most of our ducks are going to jump back over the river to AR. If we let'em rest those 1st 2 weeks of weekdays we hold 'em longer. Obviously I'm a weekend hunter. My .02
