Depredation Permit

Has anyone on here ever gotten a depredation permit for hogs and/or coyotes? I have a bunch of em and I would like to be able to hunt them at night during February. (legally) What is the process and is it a pain in the butt to get one?

I didnt think you need any permit to hunt hogs or coyotes at night? Call lee and ask direct. Depredidation permits are for farmers shooting deer out of crops, i think.

Yeah. I've seen the info on the MDWFP page. It looks like you don't have to have a permit if you do it between the end of turkey season and the beginning of bow season, but I wan't to do it during February and the beginning of March before it starts getting hot outside.

You can hunt them with what ever weapon you chose as long as it not deer season. Need to let your local warden know so when he gets a call at night he will know who it is.

any time with no weapon restrictions and/or on
public lands where the government agency charged

animals. However, nuisance animals may not be
hunted or pursued with dogs during spring turkey
season. Crossbows may be used to take nuisance
animals by persons possessing either a General
Crossbow License or Special Crossbow License in
addition to an All-Game or Sportsman License.

True dat , but he wants to do it during February. That is by permit. Your link covers March 1 to last day of Sept.

Yep, special permit durning feb, but turkey season they live game. Basically that link tells you what you need to know.

I can tell you that a depredation permit here in Louisiana is very difficult to get. You CAN'T get one for a hunting club, or even a small farm. YOu have to be commercially farming and the hogs have to be destroying cash crops to get a permit. It may not be that way in MS, but that's the way it is here.

As far as hunting them here you can use any weapon you choose so long as it's daylight hours. It's techincally illegal to kill them at night in Louisiana, but my local game warden is aware of my nightime activities with the hogs if you know what I mean. Basically not many people are going to give you a problem shooting hogs.

I had some questions on this before and I called the regional office for the area I was hunting and talked to the head game warden for that area. He said you could hunt them during daylight hours as long as there was a hunting season open, to be able to do it at night you have to get them declared a nuisance. This is pretty easy to do if you are the land owner, the actual land owner has to go in to the office and fill out some paper work and that is it. So if you are the land owner or the land owner is willing to do this it is easy to declare them a nuisance and be able to hunt at night.

we can read but you have to actually have them declared a nuisance on your property to fully ensure that you will not get in trouble. Now chances are most wardens won't do anything if they are truly a nuisance even if you don't have that paper work but best to always protect yourself and just go to the office and get the paperwork done.
