I here Santee Cooper in South Carolina is holding a bunch of ducks. I am thinking about hunting Santee on opening morning. Can some one from South Carolina please PM me some GPS coordinances to some of the better holes. Is there any cheap lodging nearby? I will be scouting the afternoon before and intend on freelancing.

surfdog...the only way you are going to get an accurate Matthews report is if you drag your boat in there and see for yourself. Sorry to be the one to break the news to ya...but the fellas on this site that hunt "The Brake" aren't going to volunteer information. Ya see...these fellas are full of hospitality until it comes to fighting for a parking place at the boat ramp. In recent years, there has been a huge increase in the number of Fla, GA, SC, AL, AR and TN tags in the lot. So many in fact that many of us have abandoned the brake all together. I hunted that place on and off for 25 years and it sux to get crowded out of a spot that has so many memories.

If you are a native that was transplanted to GA, then disregard my comments.

Good luck.

My thoughts exactly Softcall. I hunted the Brake the first few years that it was public back in the late 80's. If there were 10 trucks at the landing, we thought it was getting over run. Sometime in the mid 90's, I noticed there were more people from out of state than in state hunting there. The last time I hunted there was 3 years ago and I here it has gotten worse. I guess nothing stays the same when it comes to public hunting.

I'll stick by my comments because they are factual...BUT ole surfdog's a transplant so I know how he feels. He is a Delta boy and obviously admires the brake as much as anyone.

Yeah, don't go shootin' up OOS trucks (especially a white '97 Dodge Dakota w/ MSU decals)! :D Never kjnow when it might be someone with gumbo mud in their veins!

Good hunting, guys. I will see y'all at the Egg Bowl and then in the duck holes after that!
