What hotel in New Orleans?

Postby Swamp Ass » Wed Jan 06, 2010 10:46 am

Taking the wife to NOLA for the first weekend in Feb. What hotels should I look into? Been years since I have been down there.

Around $100.00 per night is my budget. I want to be within walking distance of the restaurants and shops. Driving down so parking is a consideration as well...

Not sure what "style" hotel your wanting but Me and my wife took our kids down last summer on a whim and stayed at the Homewood Suites on Poydras http://www.homewoodsuitesneworleans.com/ . It was very nice for the money, I think it was like $89 a night. You could walk to the Fench Quarter if you want, little long, maybe 5 blocks. The trolley stops one block from it.
Oh, and indoor pool too with hot tub.

I'd check them all and find out. Most are on line. You might be surprised how low some of the nicer ones are selling rooms. I've stayed at the Ritz Carlton for less than $150 a night...they were hurtin!

I went last spring and stayed in the hotel connected to the ritz carlton. I think it was iberville suites. I wanna say it was like 90 a night plus 30 a day for valet parking.
All the rooms are suites with seperate bedroom and living area with tv and couch. If I go back I'll def stay there again.
Oh and u have access the the spa facilities and such at the ritz if.ur into that sort of thing.

Yeah I like the Royal Sonesta...you can party of Bourbon if you want, but you can also slip out the back and head to the quieter parts of the quarter. Not sure on the rates at the Intercontinetal, but its a good ways away. The Monteleon is a cool place, and the bar is the bottom is a carousel and the chicks like it...plus it gives you a break from being around the "freak show". Also, not sure on your timeline, but you may want to see if there are any apartments that offer week or less rentals in the quarter...like on Esplande or Chartres street...around the Jackson Square area. I'm 27 and have gone to New Orleans many times ...3 weeks last summer(have a friend with a place on Chartres)....the Bourbon Street scene gets old quick...I would say pick a place off of it towards Jackson Square and walk to it(party central).

you better call now if you want something. I tried booking yesterday for valentine weekend and couldnt find what i wanted that i could afford. the bourbon orleans is nice as is the plaza hotel. both on bourbon. Have stayed at the royal sonesta too. We are going the weekend after valentines and we are staying in Quality inn and suites cause i have some points to redeem and getting a free night. The next night was $129. Nothing fancy but decent clean and safe on Okeefe which is only a block or 2 from all the night life. It is our yearly ritual to go there in February. Helps me get over the depression of duck season being over. Good food and drink plus i love to watch the freaks.....

Intercontinental is nice. only a few blocks away from the freak show. Mason Dupuy i think thats right... has good rates at times and is also pretty good, 3 or 4 years ago anyway. check out Bookit.com they usually have a mystery hotel really cheap and its usually a nice place for a good price. just dont advertise the name till after you book it.

Its a little pricier, small rooms, but google the "corn stalk hotel" down at the end of the quarter. My wife LOVES that place, quiet balcony, but just around the corner and you are in all the bourbon street action. http://www.cornstalkhotel.com/ Tell them its your BD or anniversery, free champagne, etc.

Good Luck in finding a room under $100 as Mardi Gras is Feb 16th. There are parades starting Jan 30 though until Mardi Gras day. You may even have a hard time finding vacancy.

I don't think you will find a hotel in New Orleans for under $100 at that time of year that you would want to stay in. We are staying in one in two weeks for a mardi gras ball and it's $179/night and it's not a fancy hotel. Good Luck!

priceline is the only way to go. I felt like I had been molested after using it and paying the price I paid for the same hotel a couple months ahead of time.
