Move to Colorado?
Move to Colorado?
Believe it or not there is a question in my following ramblings: I am very happy with my current employment and living situation. The company I work for has offices in Colorado. If I wanted, I could transfer to an open position around Fort Collins, CO in several months. I have researched and researched this place for a long time and appears to be a great place to live. My wife is open to the idea but Im kind of torn. Ft. Collins appears to have PLENTY of things to do and the school system is out of this world! I currently live in Baton Rouge but was born and raised in Natchez. All my activities that keep me occupied (hunting, fishing, etc) is within an hour drive of here. BUT I get sick of certain things we deal with on a daily basis. Im not racist by any means just a realists. I am tired of being in Wal-Mart, gas stations, etc and dealing with what we all deal with (yall know what Im talking about). We live in the poorest, fattest, racist states(not on our end) in the Union. My wife is 2 months pregnant and I will have to send child to an expensive private school here b/c public schools are so bad! I know I will pay taxes for the rest of my life but what my taxes here pay for disgust me! Sometimes I want to see if the grass is greener on the other side. Hunting is my passion, but I think I could keep myself occupied for 5-10 yrs up there with an occasional week or two hunting back home.
The things that I would worry about would be missing our culture. Sitting around the camp with good ol boys swapping stories and bull^%&tting. All of our family is from Natchez, that would be another con of leaving. Leaving the family/friends and missing the hunting camp would be the hardest thing.
Question being, would you guys jump on this opportunity? Or are you content with where you are?

you'll kick dirt on hunting here w/in a weeks time. very VERY liberal out there and a whole slough of dirty mexicans, but they keep em beat down pretty good.
there's a lot of could say, but, it's a great place to be IMHO.

Go. The ducks have to be someplace! They sure ain't here.
Seriously, you can always come back home. You can't 'come back' from someplace until you've actually gone there. Understand?

Nobody owes you anything.
Re: Move to Colorado?
There's some outstantding fly fishing out there, and eastern Co has some outstanding duck hunting as well. You might not want to leave the family friends, i'm a home boy myself. If you want to leave, it's a really nice place to go. I don't see much reason why you couldn't come back.

You do not have but one life to live.....live every day like it was your last....do not ever wonder what if......you ans. your own question when you "Thought" about it
Life's too damned complicated to make it too damned complicated
Re: Move to Colorado?
gee oh....GO!
Do it now while you are young. It has the potial to be an awesome life changing experiance for you & your wife. It will definately be a better place to raise your child. Sure, initially it will be tough on some family members & possibly you, but that will improve over time. In fact, some will even come visit you guys & your trips back home will be special. Go with an open mind & it'll be a great experience. If for some reason, it's not, you're not giving up your right to come home. Most of us do eventually "come home", but there's nothing wrong with testing the waters elsewhere for a while. I hear the hunting out there is decent

Re: Move to Colorado?
Our likes/dislikes about this area and what MS (friends, family, and deer camp) means to us sound pretty similar. In fact, I probably like BR a touch more than you. I would probably be gone if I had such an opportunity, especially if I had a baby on the way.ntzhunter wrote:Question being, would you guys jump on this opportunity? You just shot a 140 class buck here and you are asking that question. How much greener does it get. Man talk about greedy.
If MM wasn't prego then it would be easy. Go. The fact that yall are expecting then that changes things. Taking a souther girl away from her parents is risky. While you go hunting she will sit around with few friends and zero family. This can make your life miserable. Now when you go to the Point she can go to Natchez and see here family.
I'd say stay. That is just me. I'm kinda a homebody anyway.

Fort Collins is an awesome place to be in CO. My family vacationed every year in CO when I was in grade school. I have alot of memories in CO and would move there in a heartbeat given the chance. If your company is stable, then it doesn't matter where your at, but CO is beautiful and there are alot of things to do there.

Re: Move to Colorado?
Two things; I would see how realistic moving back and resuming current position would be and I would also test to see just how strong wife and her momma thought about the move. When that baby gets here you will be glad for her friends and family close. I bet looking at it they got there own form of sreggin too. I would compare my cost of living, opportunity to make more. Any how one of those things you just dont know until your all in, good luck.

Re: Move to Colorado?
My perspective on this is this: Life is about contacts, you never know who or what is around the next corner. The worst thing that can happen with that move is you move out there for a year or two and end up moving back. You meet some people out there who hunt and fish out there and you swap hunts every year, plus you never know where the next CEO VP of you company is gonna come from so make the rounds. Honestly the hardest part your gonna have at first is the fact that your wife is pregnant and she has to get a Dr. out there and become familiar and comfortable with him/her.

If you can handle the cold weather then you should go..you will have to get use to March, April and even May being cold..Excellent big game hunting in Colorado, and you will be close to Wyoming which has alot of BLM land that will offer sage goat (antelope) and mule deer hunting..
Not sure how the bird hunting or waterfowl hunting is in Colorado...good news is that you will not be too far of a drive from SoDak which offers the best pheasant hunting in the world..
Yes Natchez sucks..I would like to move back there too (its my hometown too)..however the school districts sucks and I do not want to pay for private school
