I worked Friday night and got off saturday morning and debated on wether or not to hunt. I decided to go because I knew it would be a while before I could go again and was Tdogs last saturday to hunt before returning to work. So I picked where I wanted to go but because it was so cold I over dressed and sent Tdog a text that I was not going to go to my climer because I was already sweating and if I climbed and then sat I would surely sweat more then freeze. I decided to hunt a stand we call Vampire ( due to the skeeters almost sucking us of alll our dear life blood while looking for the location). Tdog texted me back and told me that was an excellent choice. You can only see about 30 yards in any direction, 50 yards max through some holes. Sent Tdog a text whining about not being able to see. He responded with "I would rather be watching that 1 acre you can see than the 400 acres Im watching." I texted him back that I would soon be moving to the climber where I was originally going to go. Then a doe came up. Easy bow shot. I texted Tdog and told him I wish I had brought my bow , then I would be done and could go home and sleep.
Shortly there after more does came , all the while I am wishing I had my bow. Then I see a deer that is kind of lurking in the thick stuff. Cant make it out , not moving, not exposing itself. I continue to watch the does. I decide that before I let the biggest doe get to far off I am going to shoot her. i am aware of the deer in the thicket but I figured it was just another doe. As the does start to ease off I raise my scope put it on the biggest doe and out pops the 17" 10 point that was chilling in the cedar thicket. There was no doubt about this deer when I saw it. I shot and dropped him. Biggest deer I have ever killed.
Tdog and I drug him out and discussed all the things that could have kept me from killing the deer. The following is a short list:
1. Almost didnt go because i was a bit tired from working.
2. Almost went to a different stand.
3. Almost brought my bow and then my hunt would have been over after I shot the doe.
4. Almost moved.
5. Almost rifle blasted the doe.
6. No telling what else.............
I wonder how many times that things just work out , and how many times they just dont.
I am very thankful and glad that it did this time.
