I was wondering if any of you could give me some information about a particular area. I'm looking at purchasing some land. I have checked it out, seen the pits, timber & etc.. But my question is have any of you hunted in the area or have heard how the hunting is in the area. The land is south of Charleston, MS, around the Paynes Community, in Tallahatchie County. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks ahead of time..

I say go for it. I'm from Tallahatchie Co., but don't hunt there. But my buddies that do hunt there kill a lot of ducks from the beginning of the season til the end.

The famed "York Woods" are from around the Charleston area. I have hunted on a club with a guy down there and we killed the snot out of em. I think we were a little west of town, but not over 5 or 6 miles as best I can remember. There was some kind of levee system out there and it was inside of that. The whole area is a duck meca, as 4 eyed gadwall said earlier there are some refuges around there plus many many clubs that do quite a bit to attract and hold large numbers of ducks. I would ask some questions to local game wardens that would have no reasons to give you bad info...nextdoor neighbor landowners aren't always reliable since they sometimes have alterior (sp?) motives. Hope this helps. dd.

It is hard to find a bad place in Tallahatchie County to hunt ducks (except for the hills). A good idea is to ask the game wardens in the area, they will know what is good and what is ok. I don't think you will go wrong and the public areas just south of there can only help you when they get flooded with people. My two cents worth.
