I am looking to buy a new .22 rifle. I dont want to pay a buttload of money. Thinking on a 597 or a 10/22. What do yall have or reccomend? What can i expect to pay for a rifle and scope? I remember the 597 not being very expensive , but that was a while back.
Thanks , any advice will be apreciated.

I have about 10, from speedmaster to Smith Wesson AR-22 M&P, but my most accurate is a marlin 60 with the walmart 22 scope on it.

Got my Marlin 60 when I was 15 years old.... that was.... uh, several years ago. Put a semi-good scope on it. It is a blast to shoot.

Marlin 60, Remington 597, Ruger 10/22 are all good choices. Can't go wrong with choosing either one. The 10/22 will give you alot more for accessories if you want to build it up later on.

Another vote for the Marlin model 60. Put a scope on it and enjoy it. I know I have!!

JMHO, but you can use a Ruger 10/22 for a jack handle, boat paddle, shovel, or a sledge hammer, and it'll still shoot straight for you....just wash it down with a water hose, and oil it every once in a while.

10/22 for sure. I've had mine for 16 years now. I have shot thousands of rounds through and have hardly cleaned it at all. I recently put a Nikon 4x scope and a bull barrel on it. It is a tack driver. Very very dependable. Can't go wrong with one. Like someone else said, there are more accessories than you can imagine for it.

Marlin 60 or Remington 597, i HAVE 2 597 one is just synthetic had god know how many thousinds of rounds through it, my other 597 is a cutom deal with trigger, stock, and barrel work, prob way more than you want to spend. They are reliable, and accurate.

If you ever want something really nice try and Anschutz .22. I use one for squirrel hunting and they are very nice shooting guns, and also full size as opposed to the 10/22.

Whatever you choose, go ahead and get it threaded and buy a .22 suppressor for it. Best $400 i ever spent, and even legal to hunt with.

Mine is about 27 years old. Dad gave it to me when i was 8-9 as my first gun. I love that little gun and it will be my sons first gun as well.

Ditto
The 10/22 is a blast to make it your own. All the stock, barrel, and accessory choices make it a never ending wish list of stuff to do.

I have the Marlin. I may just need to get a better scope for it.
