I've got a huge gripe with some of the younger generation of duck hunters on public land. For whatever reason these young fellows have modified their exhaust on their surface drive motors by taking off the mufflers and mounting straight pipes. Without the muffler these motors are 5 times as loud as the ones with stock mufflers. During opening morning I guess some of these young NASCAR want to be topwater thought it would be cool to go joy riding around the brake for about 45 minutes during prime shooting time. Needless to say that every duck that was trying to work was spooked out of the area by these obnoxiously loud motors. After the hunt, I asked one of these young fellows what was the purpose of intentially removing the mufflers. The answer I got was that it makes the motor sound cool.
Just curious as to what some of y'all think about hunters intentially making a motor 5 times as loud as it should be?

You had much more restraint than me, Mark. If some teen would have said that to me, it would have taken all that I have not to unload on his motor.

First of all, they ain't duckhunters, them are little pricks out spending daddy's money and making the rest of us look bad; not to mention ruining what chance we got at actually shooting ducks. I just try to stear clear of 'em...even if that means I may not get a limit. I hate you had that experience, cause I've seen it too.

I've talked to the folks at Pro Drive and they were kinda dumbfounded as to why someone would do that. According to them, there is no gain in horse power if anything it could cause damage to the motor over time.

Well it sounds redneck and topwater to me. Now they make performance mufflers that help increase the hp(of course a stage 1,2,or3, kit is also needed to get top performance increase), but just cutting them off and putting on straits is pure redneck. Hell I want mine to be quiet as it can be

I didn't but I was pissed enough that it crossed my mind. There is no place for this crap on public land other than piss everyone off that is trying to hunt the right way.

I would have met them at the boat ramp for a chat. There is no sense in that type of disrespect for any fellow hunter. Treat people as you want to be treated.

I run my outboard with the cowlin off cause it sounds better and I dont have to take it off to fix it.

I also like to mix a little motor oil in the gas cause it makes a cool smoke screen on the water.
