rolling a rice field

rolling a rice field

has anyone ever had luck with hunting a rice field that hasnt been rolled?

or creating spots for ducks to land in a rice field that hasnt been rolled?

Yes, I have just made small spots in rice fields before with just a 4 wheeler and pallets. That way you can kind of control where they land.

im assuming your talking about one that has been cut, not a lost crop right?

yeah post harvest.

but....i have had two people tell me that rolling a rice field is flat out illegal bc it is considered baiting?

is that true, or is it a "normal agricultural practice"

and is rolling it myself with a pallet then also normal argicultural practice or am i illegally creating a hole in my rice stubble for the ducks to land?


any preference on water depth in an unrolled field with some undulation in it (ie not a zero grade)?

As others said, you can manipulate it if it's harvested. I've seen people get pretty creative with putting straw on the ground. If it were me, I'd put between six inches and a foot over most of the field. Then as the season goes on you can put more water on (or rain will do it) and expand the usable area for ducks.
