As unbelievable as it was I saw one group in Venice opening weekend of teal season. I have NEVER seen them that early, and I wasn't even drinking yet. Normally don't look for them till end of October, early November. Specks will start moving and typically show up in S. Louisiana in Mid October.

According to the DU calendar  lesser snow geese travel in masses from their staging areas in James Bay to Louisiana and other wintering areas in the lower MAV on October 15th.

Maybe the geese you saw didn't get the memo.
