Ok I want a small mountain rifle in a shrt caliber and I have narrowed it down.
The 7mm-08 or the .260 rem. I have read alot on the 08 but cant find much on the 260, What do you guys think.
I know everybody has a favorite and I probably have your caliber already but I want to know about these two.
Thanks in advance.

A friend here at work has the 7mm-08 and loves it. His father-in-law target shoots and reloads a whole lot. He helped my friend get his shooting pretty damn well. I would think the 7mm-08 has a little more knock down and I believe it is a little faster at the muzzle (don't quote me). Someone can correct me if I am wrong but isn't a 7mm a .284 caliber?

DH,
Ask our old buddy that lives over there on the creek which one he shoots. I think he is very fond of the .08. The only thing that I do not like about it is that you don't have a good blood trail, and I know this because I helped him trail a big buck in Natchez. It didn't go far , but there was no blood whatsoever. Just got a .08 for a friend of mine from the mallard. It was a browning micro-hunter and we got it for $350. It was a trade in ,but came right out of the box. got it for his wife.....

I bought my wife an 08 a few years ago. I used to shoot a 7mm Mag, but now all I shoot is "her gun". I really like that little gun. Very little recoil and enough knock down power to handle the pine goats pretty well.

Have you checked out the new .300 WSM or 7mmSAM? I purchsed the new .300 WSM and I'm impressed with the accuracy. You get the same power as the .300 magnum without the kick or weight of a magnum caliber rifle.

I would have to do some looking around and see which bullets are most easily obtainable. I would hate to get all prepared to go hunting out west somewhere or just on any old hunting trip in general that takes you away from your "home" area. only to get there and realize...oh poop! I forgot my bullets. well, if you have the more popular gun, then a trip to your local wally world would probably yield you a box of shells whereas if you had a less popular caliber you'd be hunting a specialty gun shop hoping they might have some and if it's over a weekend good luck on them even being open. Just a thought, but things like that happen so keep it in mind.

I have remington 7mm-08, a good caliber, has killed all the deer i shot at. It doesn't leave a big exit wound, but that can be accomplished with the right bullet. It is the same thing as a 308 necked down to shoot a 7mm bullet. Just my 2 cents
