Gentlemen, today i received perhaps the most meaningful gift of my 27 years. A cousin called me to come to her house this afternoon that she had a halloween happy for me. i got there and she pulled a gun case out of the trunk and said she tought i might want this. I unzipped it and started pulling it out. At first for some reason i thougt it was a rilfe for the way the butt looked. But when i got it out, it was a single shot 12 gauge. She said that it was my great-grandfathers. The story she was told about it is that he took away from one of his farm hands because he had shot somebody with it. he gave it to her father later on (my great unlce)he gave to her, and now i get to hold it for a while.
It is a Nitro Hunter, never heard of it so any help would be appreaciated, and is nickel plated, though i don't think that is original. if anybody has ever heard of a nitro hunter please let me know, i don't imagine it is worth much, except to me, but i am curious about it. Sorry for running on so long, but this means alot to me. my grandfather died before i was born so to get something that belong to his father is really big for me. Anyhow, i just had to share about my "new gun". Thanks, Andy

there are a few of the nitro hunters around, very few in good shape. those guns were made for meat huntin and most of them seen their share. i have one that has a splinter fore-arm and slim reciever. and it is not a safe gun to fire, but it has a lot of memories... gurss i'll hang on to it...

Thank you Judge, i just have never heard of a nitro hunter before. This gun as a real short and slim forearm, just a little larger than your hand, is that a splinter forearm. And it is real slim from the trigger to towards the butt of the gun where your other hand goes. Don't plan to shoot it, but i may just have to once [img]images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif[/img] . And i sure don't plan to sell it, matter of fact i plan to buy that gun safe that i have been putting off. Thank you again and let me know if that is a splinter stock. Andy

the splinter fore-arms are the real slim ones. you will touch the barrel and forearm at the same time. common on old doubles until the beaver-tail fore-arm was introduced.. same on the single bbls.
