Well - I've finally ( got let go back in Sept. '08 ) landed another full-time job !! I start on Monday !

I'll be teaching at Copiah-Lincoln Community College - Natchez Campus. I'll be teaching Electronics, Controls and Automation, PLC's, Safety, and some PC and IT courses.

I'll be commuting from Vicksburg till I find a place to stay and then I'll move the wife probably closer to Christmas. This way we can house hunt and learn the areas in/around Natchez.

I need all the advice I can get re: Natchez and Adams County ! You folks were a HUGE help with the B and B and restuarant opinions - they were good advice ! I now need housing, church, hunting, fishing, shopping, etc.... info ! Is there a decent outdoor store in town ?? Anybody live there - I'll buy the beer if you wanta meet up !

This may really cramp my hunting seasons - but I already had to quit both my Deer Camps due to the job shortage - so there's not much left tpo cramp up at the moment. I'll have to rely on some family land "meat hunting" during the Holiday breaks till I find some spots to explore near Natchez.

I see there are some WMA's and state parks and Nat'l Forest and wildlife refuge nearby - are they over-run or over-regulated !!

Any input appreciated !

Vicksburg is AWESOME compared to Natchez, and since you now live in Vicksburg, I hope you know what I mean

If you got kids get ready to pay for private school. Housing is expensive too!

Great town. I don't know crap about houses but the deer hunting, turkey, and fishing are all great. Duck hunting the last few years (8-10) has really really fallen off. Despite "numbers being 54% above long term average" the birds just don't get down there.

the Public land in the Natchez area is very crowded...unless you can hunt during the week I would not even bother..good news is that you should be able to find a lease..Duck hunting typically isn't that good because the birds rarely don't make it that far south..They do kill alot of ducks just south of Natchez at Woodlawn and Tansey Island but you will pay huge $$ to hunt there (if you can get in)..

If you have kids try to find a house in Vidalia..the schools over there are much better..you pretty much have to put your kids in private school in Natchez..

Andrews and Bowie's tavern are good watering holes..holla if you have anymore questions...I grew up in Natchez..all my people are from that area..

Wife's family is from there. The place in some ways is one of the neatest places in the state. Due to its isolation, it has kind of developed its own culture - some of it not so good.

Don't know chit about Natchez besides it's in Mississippi.........but congrats on the job Geoff.

all I can say is if you run into ntzhunter or mshunter77 in town, stay away! They are trouble, I really couldn't begin to tell you how much SHAT they've gotten me in! Don't fool with Grommet too much either, he's no good either!

You'll like it, it's a great place. Hope I can move home and raise my young un there some day.

C'mon now that town is not near as much fun since ntzhunter and I have moved from there. Natchez is not a bad place as long as you can put up with the democrats, you will probably want to look for housing south of town, that is where the newer nicer areas are. You will want to put your kids in private school. The public land is over run but there is plenty of good hunting land if you are willing to pay good money.

I don't know anything about it, but congrats on the new job. You are going to love teaching young people technical skills. It is very rewarding and challenging!
