I hate to be "Mr. Politically Correct", but the afore mentioned comments are just out of line. I am sure it is all just in jest of the situation at hand, but this is really not a time for joking. It is not good to generalize ever-but it's even more damaging right now. I'm not trying to sound liberal-I'm trying to sound American. We are the land of the free and the home of the brave, but along with that comes a diverse population. We are a nation of inclusion. That middle easterner has just as much right to be here, and to be a pilot, as you or I do.

I don't think the point was whether or not he had the right to be a pilot or not. He has every right in the world. The question was would you fly with him. I had to fly for business last week and when I got home my wife asked me how it went. Nothing really happened except our flight stuard was from the middle east and his name was Muhammad. She then asked me if I looked at him differently now. Your damn right I did. I also looked at everyone else differently in the airports on the planes etc... When the Al Quaida come on the news and tell the US that they are going to take more plains, bring the fight to the US the you do generalize and look at them differently. Sorry but I like myself and if it takes a little gereralizing and looking at people differently and being more observant then I am going to. Lets say in the town you live in there is a Eight year old little white boy killing people but the police cannot pinpoint which one it is. You gonna set there and tell me that if a little eight year old boy walks up to you your not gonna look at him differently? Please you know you will.

It's a real conflict with the values that are part of what America is about. But, we have to respond to this threat in a real way, and that means changing the way we do business. Do I look at those from the Middle East differently? You bet your sweet bippy I do! Do I treat them differently? Not intentionally. In my school, I have two Aphgan families. In one family, the Grandfather was assassinated when the Taliban came to power because he was the "Sec. of Defense" (don't know the real title, just the position) for the Mujahadeen when they were fighting the Soviets. The Taliban considered him a threat, so they killed him. Real Godly people there, huh! In the other family, the father was a soldier in that war. I found out all this out when they registered a couple of years ago. I still treat those kids with the same respect as I always have, but you'd better believe I think of the adults differently now...I can't afford not to be suspicious. By the way, two of the hijackers (Atta and another) who hit the Trade Towers worked out at a gym across the street from my school here in Gwinnett County. To me, that means there are probably more members of a terrorist cell around here. I have seen a few black Suburbans with men in suits around town recently, so I suspect that the FBI thinks so, too. I do not advocate being mean or rude to anyone, but, by golly, we'd better be more vigilant and aware...and for a long time! We cannot afford apathy or naivite'.

Most importantly, the point I was trying to make is that the comments of taking out these middle easterners into some quicksand-quagmire to show them "A HUNT OF A LIFETIME" is wrong. There is no need for all of that. I realize that it is going to take some time for this anti-middle eastern sentiment to dissapate. It is kinda' like back during WWII with the Japanese Americans, heck, we put them in "concentration camps" out in the west. I just don't want something like that to start happening.

I understand where you are coming. It is going to take time. I was not around during WWII and Pearl Harbor. My grandfaher was in the Navy at the time and he still makes comments about those "Japs". Now I have to go through what his generation did with the September 11th trajedy. And it is going to be a long time before I get past looking at Middle Easterners the same. Prior to the crash's I didn't give them a thought, now I catch myself watching them and wondering what their next move may be.

I'll be the first to tell ya that I wouldn't board an airplane or train or bus with a middle-easterner on it. It only makes sense to me that if the people on those flights that crashed on September 11 wouldn't have boarded, less people would have died. I refuse to give my life up just to be Politcally Correct. I don't care what people think, if I don't think I should be on a plane with one then I'm not going to.

I know you heard the news where these terrorists lived in Florida, and lived normal lives. Well who am I to know if this middle easterner is a terrorists? Nobody knows. That's why I simply wouldn't get on anything with one on it. And I'll be the first to tell you that I'm not out to please the government, and all these equal rights for all people. If I don't think somethings right, then I'm not going to do it. PLAIN and SIMPLE.
