what kind of duck was it?

Saw four ducks this evening that I had never seen any like before. At a distance in the setting sun light with no binoculars, so details are kind of scetchy.

They were larger than mallards. Rusty brown breast and wings, dark(maybe black or green) tail, white or maybe light tan head and neck.

Could be some kind of domestic, but I had never seen any before. Ring any bells? :?:

I've never seen a duck before that meets that description. It might have been a mallard that was not in full plumage or some kind of domestic cross breed.

I would have to side with Jack on that one maybe a tree duck although really displaced to the east to be a tree duck. That being said I have seen a group of the at Arkabutla in the spring before.

You have described what were probably domestic or semi domestic muscovy ducks. They will act like wild ducks and fool ya. We worked a flock right into our dekes last year. They eat pretty good. Muscovys come from south america where they live wild. It doesnt take much for them to go wild again. The white or light head, green tinged irridescense, the rusty look, sounds like them to me.

Still not sure what it was. I'd recognise most of the ones y'all mentioned. All kidding aside, I'd say the closest guess is something from the zoo. It reminded me alot of pictures I've seen of some european species. Maybe somebody lost something they paid alot of money to have at their back yard pond.
