I hate a thief....
The new way they are stealing stuff in Memphis....
Whenever they steal a car (which is a common thing in Memphis), they keep the garage door opener. they they ride around the neighborhoods until they find a garage door that it will work on.
Neighbor had his Harley Davidson edition F-150 stolen out of his garage this way. They rode bicycles to his house, (left the bicycles at his house) and stoled his truck out of his garage. Bold little baztards. He said he was IN his garage one night, when his garage door went up and down twice. Though it was malfunctioning... little did he know.
Another neighbor has gotten up 3 times in the past two weeks to find his garage door open. And he never leaves it open.

I assume there are only so many codes (electronic combinations). Had a uncle once that lived in Pascagoula visiting my uncle that lived in West Point. First uncle locked his keys in his car (both owned Lincolns) my other uncles key opened his car up.

they transmit on a code...there are not enough codes so that every garage door has a code, so some over lap. Kinda like toolbox keys. I have taken mine through a neighborhood one day to show someone and opened several doors...not malisciously, and i put them back down. Its kind of scary. Same thing with car unlockers. My dads for his car would unlock the doors on a corvette in the UMC parking lot. He ended up telling the lady and she got hers re-coded.

you can also buy a device that will mimic or clone the code so when you open if they are stalking they can clone the code to your opener
to that end my garage door (installed last year) has a "shutdown" lock switch I can push at night or when leaving for vacation that completely disables the door even with my opener
might better start using it at night

Crazy reggins. You know I wish they'd put some of these smarts towards something productive. As for the truck key thing, I'm thinking it may not be as rare as we'd like to think. My paw in law grabbed the keys to my truck (01 F150) thinking they were his (03 F150), never knew the difference til he got back and tried to unlock the house with my keys.

David Lloyd had his truck stolen.
Stenhouse's garage has been opened a couple of times recently
Last summer, there were several trailers stolen in the neighborhood. And Stenhouse's place was hit twice in three days. Took his 4-wheeler, and a bunch of yard tools. Two days later, they came back and cleaned him out again.
Someone busted out Mike Cooper's truck windows last year too.

What about unplugging the opener at night when all are home and tucked in? Or maybe pull the "unlatch" cord. If there opener works, they would not know it because the chain would "run" but door would not raise. They would think that they did not get a bite! Just thinking on keyboard. Anyone do this or know if it would work all right?

Mine has a switch on the control panel that you can turn the opener off. Just what a PITA to do that ever nite...

If you pull the chain unlock cord, the garage door could be simply raised by hand. Probably much quieter too.
Pulling the power cord would be more secure.
